Nick Gentry Paints Art On Floppy Disks (VIDEO, PHOTOS)

First Posted: 06/29/11 05:36 AM ET   Updated: 08/28/11 06:12 AM ET

Nick Gentry is a talented artist who just so happens to use floppy disks as his canvas. Gentry recycles outmoded technology into works of art. He doesn't conceal his material, he revels in the words and textures. Notes from previous owners peek through the paint, the history of the disks is as much what Gentry is celebrating as the subjects he depicts.

Gentry is a Central St. Martin's grad who has used both floppy disks and VHS tapes in his work. His painting are at once archaeological and haunting.

Check out his work below.

I have never done art like this, but I like it and enjoy seeing new creative ideas. It will be interesting to see other work that this artist will do in the future. Maybe the artist will continue explore new ideas.

These floppy's are kind of making me get a hard drive kind of feeling. Definitely cool too me. I do the same thing with losing lottery scratch offs. Yeah it's art. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j8-qLDxiTkg and I make music that people make videos of.

Nice, but I dont know exactly where you can take it from here -- and I dont think that this kind of visual statement will stand for an entire career.

This pretty much sums up what separates an art observer from an art creator.

No need to stand for an entire career, you move on to wherever your 'creative' talent takes you.

Cool. Makes me want to go paint a CRT monitor or a 3 foot high old PC tower.
