Blind Film Critic Proves 'No Strings Attached', 'Friends With Benefits' Same Movie (VIDEO)

First Posted: 06/29/11 10:02 AM ET Updated: 08/29/11 06:12 AM ET

This past January, a movie called "No Strings Attached" hit theaters. In it, Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher played a pair of friends who tried to have sex without any messy feelings getting in the way.

This July, a movie called "Friends With Benefits" is set to premier, and in it, Mila Kunis and Justin Timberlake play a pair of friends who try to have sex without any... oh wait. This sounds familiar.

The Blind Film Critic picked up on the similarities, too, so he had his people put together this hilarious trailer mash-up to highlight how much these two movies have in common.

Granted, "Friends With Benefits" hasn't come out yet, so we can't be 100% certain, but unless Mila Kunis plays a secret alien or Justin Timberlake's character is a vampire we're pretty sure these two are the exact same movie.

Well, I've not seen either of these movies, but if they're like every other romantic comedy ever written in the history of the universe, both movies went something like this:

The first act introduced our male and female leads. The man has a bunch of rowdy, dumb-yet-funny friends, and the woman has a bunch of ice cold feminist friends. Man and woman start relationship, and it goes well until the end of the second act when there's some misunderstanding (usually compounded by their friends... most likely HER friends), or if the man told some lie at the beginning of the movie, this is where his lie would be REVEALED. Either way, the second act ends with a fight and a break-up and it's useless and stops the movie dead since the entire third act results in them getting back together anyway.

Lemme guess...they think sex shouldnt be messy, they start with a wondeful no-strings-attached scenario and then realize they actually like spending time together...then somewhere they have an argument...someone chases someone...and they end up together....the end.

Is the Elizabeth Banks on Modern Family or just someone that looks just like her?

She's been in one episode, but what does Elizabeth Banks have to do with these two movies? I'm pretty sure she wasn't in either one.

Merely an analogous reference…as the article is discussing the similarity of these two films. I believe Elizabeth Banks appeared on Modern Family because she does look very much like Julie Bowen....

Are we good?

I predict that at the end of "Friends With Benefits" it will be revealed that Mila Kunis' character is actually just Natalie Portman in a black bra.

Friends with Benefits has Mila Kunis in it. This means that no matter how awful it is, it will be more fun to watch than No Strings Attached.

When I used to watch network TV I'd often see the same plot on 2 crime shows, with only one detail changed. I guess it saved time with the writers with typing before word processing became available.

Love and Other Drugs is also virtually the same movie...except for that whole parkinsons thing.

The mash up is very funny but I wish he had included how they both seem to have "borrowed" from the indie film Friends (with benefits). People keep wondering why there is no originality in Hollywood, why they just recycle ideas? Well, how is it possible that a small film, done on a shoestring, with virtually no budget, is duplicated by Hollywood and no one takes notice.? Want a viral video? How bout we support the team that did it first? It's ridiculous that more people haven't taken notice that yes, there are two very similar movies coming out within six months of each other and they totally rip off this one---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrKpXGWu220

Of course, The Blind Film Critic forgot about the indie FRIENDS (WITH BENEFITS) which came first. Started playing film festivals in June 2009. (Won a bunch of awards.) Same orange logo! Same premise. (Based on a script called F*** Buddies written in 1999.) But a lot edgier and more original. It's available everywhere: http://www.FWBmovie.com (Notice the URL for the Justin version is almost identical as well.)
