Ed Miliband's Interview Technique

First Posted: 07/01/11 11:40 AM ET Updated: 08/31/11 06:12 AM ET

Long the butt of punchlines for his nasal-sounding voice and geeky demeanor, British Labour Party leader Ed Miliband has become a hot tabloid topic once again after giving a bizarre "robot-like" TV interview.

Asked about the U.K. public sector strikes, Miliband gives nearly identical answers to a series of questions while maintaining a fixed stare. Each answer is some combination of the following phrases: "These strikes are wrong at a time when negotiations are still going on...the government has acted in a reckless and provocative manner...after today's disruption I urge both sides to put aside the rhetoric and stop it happening again."

Watch for yourself here:

And here we thought all the tools were on this side of the pond. Genealogy will prove this man is related to Mitch McConnell.

Is that what they call an "empty suit"? He sounds like Steve Forbes in the 96? election, with his canned "flat tax" speech.

The second video clearly shows that an empty vessel makes a good echo chamber.

Labour supporters, you have to admit it: Miliband is just not leadership material. He is beyond weak -- like a schoolboy doing his very best to win the debate against the grown-ups. Don't know how Labour put him in charge instea of his brother David (former Foreign Minister). I remember it was a squeaker of a win. Anyway, I doubt Ed will last very long as Labour leader.

Agreed, such a shame the labour class no longer have a leader to rally behind

The very privileged, affluent trust fund kid, with no knowledge whatsoever nor any emotional or traditional attachment either to the working class or the union movement. Ed would fit in very nicely with the Progressive branch of the Democratic party. What an abject betrayal, considering he played the unions like a Stradavarius in order to get their votes to secure him as Labour leader. Gonna be a long time before Labour's in Number 10 under Eddie.

Watch out! He carries a big stick!

Correction, Ed would only fit in with the Conservative branch of the Republican Party.

I do agree that it'll be a long time before Labour's in #10 though, all thanks to Blair.

That was pretty funny. Qudos to the interviewer for not laughing or getting frustrated.

Negotiations are merely a farce, the government has already decided the way forward....

This strike will be the first of many, why should the people pay for the blunders of bankers!

Why couldn't David get elected?

When Ed's then girlfriend, now wife gave birth to their second son, Ian Hislop quipped "Ed Miliband has a new baby son who will grow up to destroy the dreams of his older brother."

Because Ed bought the unions' vote and then pi$$ed all over them. The Miliband brothers don't speak.
