CNBC's Darren Rovell reported on Friday that Nike and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick have agreed to a new deal, four years after Nike terminated its contract with Vick due to his arrest on dogfighting charges.

"Michael acknowledges his past mistakes,” Nike spokesman Derek Kent told Rovell. "We do not condone those actions, but we support the positive changes he has made to better himself off the field."

Joel Segal, Vick's agent, told CNBC that the star quarterback is "excited to have a long-term and strong relationship with Nike."

Vick served 18 months in prison and two months of home confinement after pleading guilty to running a dogfighting operation in 2007.

The 31-year-old, who was once the highest-paid player in the NFL, signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2009.

Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk pointed out that after Vick signed with the Eagles, he and Nike resumed their relationship, But later, Nike came out and said that there was no "contractual relationship" between the two.

He signed his first endorsement deal since his release from prison in January when he inked a two-year contract with Unequal Technologies.

Vick was named the starting quarterback for the Eagles over Kevin Kolb early in the 2010 season. He went on to dominate in 2010, throwing for 3,018 yards and 21 touchdowns.

The organization placed the franchise tag on Vick in February.

For those that feel Vick has served his time for his systematic animal abuse, what about intentionally infecting a woman with his herpes? Doesn't that say a bit about his character, or isn't that important either? Here is a link to the story.

Hello my name is Jaime Woodard I am the founder of We Deserve Our Lives Back.com, http://www.wedeserveourlivesback.com/
the site promotes bills and laws that assist non violent federal offenders with there re-entry into society.

There are no provisions for an expungement for a non violent federal charge. Our community is following a bill called HR 2065 The Fresh Start Act of 2011. If the bill becomes law non violent federal offenders can petition the court to have their one and only record erased.

I went back to school after my release, I have an Associates and a Bachelors degree in Psychology. This fall I will begin my Masters in Social Work at Rutgers University in New Jersey.

join our community's movement for first time, nonviolent, ex-federal, offenders.

I want to end by saying we have trade skills, we have degrees and we deserve our lives back.

Vick never served time for the animal abuse. The only time he served was for racketeering due to our flawed judicial system. If he would have been convicted on the animal abuse charges he'd be in jail for the rest of his life, which is where he belongs. Boycott Nike!

I think it's great that Nike is signing with him. He served his time. I thought his time served was extreme. People get less time when they kill people. I will always wear Nike's(great shoes). Now that Nike own Cole Haan i know i will support them. Cole Haan's are my favorite shoes. Go Vick. I live in New Orleans but, born in VA.

Michael Vick was smart to “acknowledges his past mistakes”, but do you think fans will be able look past them and be open to support him as well as Nike?

I will no longer purchase nike products. I do not feel "18 months" was a long hard sentence and I will not contribute to the likes of a dog killer.

I will no longer purchase Nike products and will encourage my friends to do the same. This is despicable, shame on Nike and their pursuit of the all-mighty dollar over morals.

Nike harms dogs? All employees of New Balance are saints? Nobody working for NB has ever done anything wrong? They must have some pretty stiff policyes in place.

Seriously though; NB has some of the ugliest foot wear I have ever seen and I've tried the running shoes. Not good quality for my money. The problem with many American made products today.

are you comparing "anything" to grabbing a dog by it's hind legs and slamming it to the concrete? save your pseudo-intellectual moral high ground for your people...the rest of us can actually " see" and have the courage to call out ours...just sayin
