There are mysteries in the roster every year. Why C. C. Sabathia isn't on it is another. First to ten wins this year. 11-4. ERA of 3.05. But there are other eleven game winners with better ERAs. It's called the all star game, not every all star game.

It's a nice break in the regular season so fans can get psyched up for the second half.

How is this possible. Aarow Crow of K.C record is 2-2, 0 saves, 3 blown saves and 8 holds.Be in the 2011 All Star game. Even though he is a relief pitcher and C.C Sabathia record is 11-4 ERA of 2.95 Not be there.I am not from NY....me from KC..My point is, the ALL star game should not be called the All star game.If the best players arent there

One thing that limits the all-star-ness of the All-Star Game is that every team must be represented, but that does not explain CC's absence from the roster. Still, CCis a big boy (understatement) and will survive. That the game is meaningless in the overall scheme of things is a bit saving.

It's horrifically unfair that Jeter made it. He's been terrible all year. So Many better options

Gotta remember it's about stats, popularity and history. His stats are down, but his popularity and history trump that. When you speak of fairness, are you suggesting the polling be done by some formula?

The MLB All-Star game is a tedious schmaltz-fest for adult sports nerds and the equivalent of TWO Sominex's instead of the regular season game single tab.

Are you suggesting she could have had her own all star team if she had had nine?

I'm still a little heartsick that Buster Posey won't be there this year.

As a huge baseball fan, and usually cheering for the underdogs (Go Rangers!), I have to say that I'm glad my main man CJ is representing. That being said, I don't like the way fans get to vote 25 times for the All-Star choices. Let people vote once, and the outcomes will still most likely be the same, but make it easier for the fans. Make their ONE vote actually make a difference.

How anyone outside of NYC can raise their hand and proudly claim to be a Yankees fan is beyond me. Guess they are the same people that wet themselves when they see a new Walmart go up, or honk their horns and give a thumbs up to every BP station they pass.

The Yankees are what's wrong with sports. The big bully that has more money then everyone else and can use this wealth and power to perpetually shift the table to benefits themselves, regardless of the impact it has on the rest of the league or nation.

It's easy to like a team that frequently wins. Then they don't have to actually learn anything about the team in order to defend their liking it.

there wasn't much evidence of sox fans just voting for their own unless you can find someone who has been a better DH or first baseman in the first half. and by the way ellsbury deserved to be voted onto the starters as he is having a much better year than hamilton but then a few other players are also.

Might have something to do with him batting around .240 having joined the pinstripes last season as an above .300 hitter. Home runs aside, the man ain't doing what he was brought in to do at the plate.

might have something to do with the most of his home runs are are only home runs at yankee stadium because of a very short porch in right field. Wall Street Journal studied the home runs of 7 yankees and determined that less than half of them would clear the fences at Citi Field. it's a fun read if you hate the yankees - http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304584004576418142641741566.html?mod=WSJ_NY_Sports_LEFTTopStories

What's worse: Laker fans for brushing Kobe's "affair" under the rug, or Yankee fans for ignoring how A-Rod lied about being a roid-injecting cheater who then retaliated against the reporter who called him out on it?

If Ted Bundy could play LF or PG, Laker fans and Yankee fans would embrace him with open arms. They just have really low standards and very short memories.

Yankees always look the other way when it comes to their cheaters. A-Rod is just the latest in a long list that they have forgiven.

I like this year's format for home run derby:
One captain from each league gets to pick three players from his league.

However, I would like to see three modifications:
(1) Each player gets only ten (10) pitches to hit.
(1) Contain it to players who were not picked for the All-Star Teams.
(2) Pick three pitchers per league (also, who did not make the All-Star Teams) and have them pitch to the other league's home run derby reps - fastballs only.

As far as All-Star games go, baseball's is the best of the bunch. I'm not altogether enamored with the selection process, but it is what it is. For the players, it is a nice resume builder, a feather on their cap, and generally worth some cash. I'll watch, and most likely enjoy the game, but if I were to choose a selection honor that would mean the most to me as a player, it would be being selected as the most valuable player on my own team.

The Brewers are in the National League now? Must have switched after I stopped watching baseball. I used to love it, wonder what happened?

Baseball fans care, it celebrates the American past time, its alot of fun. As a little kid, I was crushed when the NL dominated my American league, many great moments like when a fail Ted Williams appeared on a golf cart and was surrounded by the current all-stars in respect for the greatest hitter of all times

Don't know anyone in New England or New York?
This game counts! Sox or Yanks will probably be this year's AL reps in the series. Phillies have the inside track in the NL and given their pitching staff, well, you don't want to give them any more advantages. Grabbing home field would be a major plus.
