Hackers Target Apple In Latest Security Attack

Apple Hacked

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 07/04/11 02:10 AM ET Updated: 09/02/11 06:12 AM ET

Hackers have targeted Apple in its latest security attack.

The group, AntiSec, posted a message to Twitter on Sunday claiming to have gained access to private data from an Apple Inc server. The document, posted to the web, contained several usernames and passwords.

From the Wall Street Journal:

The hackers said in a statement posted to Twitter that they had accessed Apple's systems due to a security flaw used in software used by the Cupertino, Calif.-based gadget maker and other companies.

"#Apple could be target, too. But don't worry, we are busy elsewhere," they said.

AntiSec is allegedly made up of members from the recently-disbanded LulzSec, a hacking group that made headlines for breaking into websites belonging to the CIA, the FBI and the U.S. Senate.

Well there are many different types of hackers. Good and bad, if it causes major companies to create better security for the stuff we use, I'm glad about that.

down with greedy corporations

While it's true corporations are often greedy, they ahve also advance our capacity to create a better world. Without them we would not be reading each others complaints about their ability to take our money. How about "Let the light shine on greedy corporations." Or maybe "Justice for all who use a corporation to hide their true agendas."

Hacking is for people who don't think they're human-enough to come out of the closet and talk to normal people. They don't have a life and suck off other people to make themselves feel like they have a place on earth ! Most of them are "Socially-- inept"

Really? How long ago did you come out of the closet? So to speak. Not all of us are 'aspies'.

Hackers are my firewall against government and business. Both destructive and benevolent they constantly remind the ugly powers that be that they are not in control. The worse virus I ever had is nothing compared to what government has allowed oil industry to charge at the gas pumps.
So lets keep a perspective on hackers, they may turn out to be your hero's.

The point is to put these giants in their place and maybe send a message to those of us (the majority) that we still have power and can still make a difference - we don't have to bend over and take it but we do have to put in some effort.

My iTunes account was hacked and apple continues to deny this by not addressing this directly. Instead one of their workers and I have exchanged dozens and dozens of emails as I try to get to the bottom of this and they continue to run me around in circles. As a big iTunes consumer I have begun to rethink purchasing media from the store.

What does it mean when you say your iTunes account was hacked? If someone is making purchases on your account, dispute the charges on your credit card and halt further transactions. It's really not rocket science.

AntiSec, LulzSec, Anonymous, aren't they Microsoft employees?

Had they been Microsoft employees the hacked computers would have simply crashed with blue screens. Doubt they could have rooted a Linux box.

What is the actual point of hacking? Is it to expose security flaws? Or is it to look at somebody's personal information? How does the public really benefit because right now all it makes me want to do is not buy electronics. Please let me know cause I really do not get it.

Some people hack for money by selling credit cards.

Some people hack claiming public service by revealing what companies never would about their LACK of security.

And then, some people hack for the same reason your dog licks it's ____ ...because they can.

These people should be considered heroes. By making knowledge of their accomplishments known and public they expose the weaknesses of companies and agencies that should take this as a warning sign to improve their security. Better to have Fat Joe in his basement doing this then those that would use it for more malicious means.

Bragging won't do them many favors. There are those who are younger and brighter than them; the new wave is never far behind.

Apple should have seen that coming... I mean all they do is rip people off... And besides if you're going to hack into Apple be smart.. DON'T BRAG! I didn't....
08:14 PM on 07/04/2011
Um....you kind of just did brag, didn't you? By saying that you didn't.

obviously you belong to the lower segment of the society who cannot afford an iPad, an iPhone or a Macbook. Don't worry work a little harder and one day you can get a second hand apple gadget.
10:51 PM on 07/04/2011
LOL! Wow... Its funny cause you think you're in a higher segment of society because you bought into Apple's Marketing. Congrats!
11:48 PM on 07/04/2011
Only a person who belongs to the lower segment of society would state that someone else belongs to the lower segment of society. Very low class comment, Nicky.
