Anybody want to bet on what these new LEGAL Americans think of ILLEGALS? For those who pin hopes on illegals voting, I have to remind you that we take in over one million LEGAL immigrants/yr as opposed to about 500,000 illegals who will never be able to vote unless some major changers are made. Even if all the illegals were amnestied, they are only half the number of the legals. Not only that, but Hispanics do NOT vote overwhelmingly for Democrats and Bush came close to winning that vote outright in his last election.

I would be willing to bet most any amount of money, that the overwhelming majority of our new citizens do NOT support amnesty at all. I would also bet that they would support strict enforcement of our laws in this matter as well. So in short, we Democrats are going to have to make a choice between these groups.

True loyalty and respect have been shown by these new citizens. It would be hard to find any American that would not be happy for them and wish them well.

It's nice to see people actually showing their love of their new country and doing this legally. These people worked for their citizenship - they don't expect to just be given what they've illegally been taking all this time just because they're "here already".

Welcome to America!

It is difficult to realize just how many people there are out there who are illegals, and yet they are working hard (for the most part) and enjoying all of the service benefits offered by our country. This system clearly needs modified, updated, and workable so that we can clear up the issue of illegals. It is unfair to those who enter our country legally, and it is unfair to those of us who pay the bills and provide excellent benefits to illegals. I am not insensitive to the good illegals, but many are getting excellent benefits unavailable to our citizens who need them as well.

There are enough politicians with very little to do, that this illegal issue could be dealt with and resolved. Actually it would be nice for a change to see our politicians accomplish something!!

(Mr. Adams and Mr. Jefferson would not have tolerated the behavior of our present day congress, and the total disregard for this country and its people.)

Consider Ronald Reagan's Amnesty for Illegals.

Consider Sarah Palin's ignorance about American History.

Consider Michele Bachmann's ignorance about American History.

Yeah it isn't like we have any issues with shortages or anything.

We area facing major water shortages. How does adding more people to our country help that problem?
http://www.alternet.org/water/82378/

Every additional person brought to this country has an ADDED global footprint of from about 4 to 7 times OVER if they stayed home.
http://www.carryingcapacity.org/DinAlt.htm

We just can't keep up the Ponzi scheme of population growth anymore without major negative environmental issues for this country and due to that the world as a whole. We have no ability to control the worlds population and massive immigration to this country has been proven to do nothing to help world poverty, abuses or other issues we need to find the natural resources (or find a way for all of us to use far far less) that are only needed due to the immigrants BEFORE they come here.

To do anything else is very irresponsible.

"Legal" immigration is the only respectable way to honor a country that bestows citizenship upon you. Welcome new Americans.
09:22 AM on 07/05/2011
It's nice to see people get their US citizenship, but the bigger issue is that the process discourages millions from taking the legal path to citizenship. The process needs an overhaul and we need to stop requiring these applicants to have knowledge of the US that natural citizens don't even have.

So, you're saying the modern day immigrant shouldn't have any knowledge of the country they are trying to reside in? "The modern day ILLEGAL immigrant doesn't want to come and be apart of the new country, they want the new country to be like their old country."
10:00 AM on 07/05/2011
The more you talk, the more vulnerable the credibility of your assertions.

1. I said that is unfair to expect immigrants to know more than that of actual average citizen. Let them learn what they wish, this is a free country.
2. The process has to be rebuilt; Anyone seeking citizenship should be able to do so with months, not years.
3. Immigrants don't want our country like there's. If they did, why would they ever leave their native country?
4. If you have a job that is threatened by an unskilled worker coming across the border, sounds like you need to become more competitive in the job market.

For the 23rd year, hundreds of LEGAL immigrants became United States citizens in one city in AZ. These are the people we should admire and welcome as citizens since they have done the hard work that has enabled them to join our people and our country. They did not take the easy way - they studied, they learned about our government, they learned our language, they did not ask for "rights" to which they were not entitled - they worked for the privilege of becoming citizens of our country.

Congratulations and welcome to all those who have the respect and dedication to our country and its laws!

"they studied, they learned about our government, they learned our language, they did not ask for "rights" to which they were not entitled"

Now if American Conservatives would just get back to doing this, we might turn things around faster...

What every happened to the neo-conservative battle cry of "individual accountability"?! If you want a good paying job, you have to compete. Immigration laws are not capable of making your more competitive in the labor market.

Stop whining and use the talents that you have to become more...well....talented, and therefore competitive.

Having just passed a citizenship test, these people know much more about the workings of this nation, their nation, than the average American voter and many of our elected officials. That is both sad and very telling.

In order to pass:

In the citizenship test, the applicant for citizenship is asked up to 10 of the 100 questions. The interviewer reads the questions in English and the applicant must answer in English. In order to pass, at least 6 of the 10 questions must be answered correctly.

- So answering six (6) questions correctly gets you citizenship? And that makes you more knowledgeable than a native born citizen?

- Geez, it takes more than that to get a license. What a joke.

btw: here is a example:

What does the Constitution do?

A: sets up the government
A: defines the government
A: protects basic rights of Americans

- It is interesting to note, there is no mention of the US Constitution setting LIMITS on what the govt can do. Funny how that is missing on the 'citizenship' test.

James Madison said: "The powers delegated by the proposed Constitution to the federal government are few and defined." (Federalist Papers #45) The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people (Amendment X).

Great more wage suppression. I hope people realize that the more workers there are in the labor market the lower wages are. When you go looking for a raise your employer doesn't look at the work you have done so much as they look at the labor market. If there are.20 resumes sitting on their desk then you will never get a raise. And the fact is that you're not likely to get one. At least not a raise that keeps ahead of inflation even though profits are well ahead. So you are creating the wealth but there is too much supply in the labor market.

And business knows this. H-1b work visas and high immigration quotas were lobbied for by major corporations seeking ways to regulate your wages downward. And mission accomplished! Not only that but they have been relentless in propagandizing this idea that immigration is good for "the economy". Which is true except for the part about which economy it's good for! It's good for the bosses economy, not workers. So wise up. Look around the world for economies in which workers do well and you will find low birth rates and low immigration rates.
