A rare “donkra” -- a hybrid of a male donkey and female zebra -- was born at a Xiamen Haicang Zoo in China this past Sunday, Examiner reports.

The crossbred animal appears to have a head resembling its donkey father, but with legs striped like its zebra mother.

According to 3 News, there were some complications with the birth, but with the help of a veterinarian the animal was delivered successfully.

Donkras are far less common than zebroids, hybrids born of zebra stallions and donkey mares, SBS reports.

Everyone's getting in on the hybrid craze. If you can't afford to drive one, at least you can take this one for a ride.

That was probably with a zebra mare and donkey stallion; this was the other way around.

Cute..should come to Lancaster Co, PA. These little ones are a common site at one farm. They call them Zeedonks here. Don't think they should do it. Little critters are quite nasty tempered! Mules are commonly used here by Amish farmers.

Oh, isn't that cute. The next bred outcome could be an end ow, Zebra bred by Burrow. Donkras and Zebroids may be accompanied by the miniature Zebrow or Burrbra as a future possibility. The Ocean swimming mammals could be bred to create stripped Whales and Dolphins. There just is not an end to the possibilities of hybrids, although Whales and Zebras may not qualify as genetically possible. A whale with stripes and hooves could be the next giant to chase mad scientists around.

Horses, donkies and jackasses are very closely related. So they will readily cross breed IF the males are kept away from their own species. Crossing MOST differing species is of NO value, excepting producing mules, which are useful. When the Army had horses, Jackasses and mules, some female mules actually produced horses when bred to a horse. There IS a difference when crossing Tigers with Lions according to which is the sire. The results are not equal. In fact the one of two possible crosses produces hybrids that have serious health problems. Humans try to take nature's job from her without understanding the long term consequences. Novelty for it's own sake is NOT good. The time, effort & $ is better spent on helping nature maintain proven and adapted species who thru millions of years have evolved to thrive in their mileu . In dogs there are enough "pets" that are not close enough to the requirements for their breed to be kept as pets. The best ones can be trained to perform their special abilities which have been intensified by selective breeding by man. In the wild nature does the choosing. There are numerous "breeds" of Tiger suited to their environment. If you cross them the Tigers will be unable to function well in the lands of either parent. These matters are complicated and need to be understood well in order for correct feelings toward the animals can be demonstrated. Otherwise you do an enormous injustice to the animals

There is one of these on display at every county fair. Why is this news? I even have a friend who owns one in North Tonawanda, NY.
