Michelle Obama Fetes Fourth Of July In Sophie Theallet, Lanvin Sandals (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 07/05/2011 7:04 am   Updated: 09/04/2011 5:12 am

The First Couple feted the Fourth of July at the White House on Monday, inviting staff members and armed servicemen and women to an Independence Day barbecue on the South Lawn. Read about the festivities here.

For the occasion, Michelle Obama picked a red-and-blue printed Sophie Theallet frock (from Spring 2011, for those of you wondering) paired with Lanvin sandals and an armful of bangles. Barack stuck with a short-sleeved, navy button-down and khakis.

Take a look, and check out more of FLOTUS' patriotic fashions.

RAD! Perfect for the day.

BAD! Not into it.

This poor hiefer. Why the need to highlight her big toenail fungus and deformity on both feet? Maybe to promote that she'll have coverage under ObamaCare?

She truly has no shame. I am a Democrat who is sick of the calculated promotion of the first spouse. No, she is not lovely. No, she is not a fashionista...she has only been disignated as one. She dresses like a pinate moss of the time.

I am quite embarrassed for her.

And designated is spelt DESIGNATED not DISIGNATED
I am quite embarrassed for you

I like this outfit. I even like the black straps on the dress and the black sandals. I think it makes the outfit fun and interesting.

I really admire FLOTUS' style. I liked this article on what it takes to dress Michelle Obama: http://blogs.forbes.com/bluecarreon/2011/05/12/what-it-takes-to-dress-michelle-obama/

Fasten your seat belts! The Nabobs of Negativity are working overtime. Tea Baggers must be really worried if they have to commit this much passion and energy to a dress and some sandals.

OK, even a First Lady can have her "bad day"!

Seriously, she's REAL and doesn't try to "impress" people with materialism. I'm more impressed by her beautiful mind.

Love the top, but the skirt is too wide for her. The shoes should have been lighter, they are too heavy.

I like the dress just not the black straps with it. But other than that I really like it!
07:07 AM on 07/06/2011
Agreed, the black straps look weird but that's a design error. I, also, don't like the clunkish sandals with the dress. A simpler sandal would have been more attractive.

Finally. A critique with dignity. Thank you.

I think the black straps and black sandals make it more interesting. I like it. Agreed, the sandals may seem a teeny bit heavy, but I still like the whole outfit.

How come I never remembered any polls on Laura Bush's clothes? What is it with Michelle that everyone thinks they need pick at everything she does or wears? I feel it's disgusting that people have nothing better to do than to constantly criticize her and heaven forbid she should recommend that children get out and move for their health that's so socialist! I know maybe Michelle should borrow some of Callista's jewelry!

Laura Bush always wore the same thing. But it is ridiculous to constantly nitpick the First Lady as if wearing clothes was her profession.

Laura Bush wasn't very adventurous when it came to fashion.

I do not like the dress or the shoes but I do not have to attack anyone to say it!
