Tiger Woods To Miss British Open 2011: 'I Do Not Want To Risk Further Injury'

Tiger Woods British Open

First Posted: 07/05/11 12:57 PM ET Updated: 09/04/11 06:12 AM ET

Tiger Woods announced on his website on Tuesday that he will miss the 2011 British Open due to his injured left leg.

He has not played since he pulled out of the Players Championship after nine holes.

"Unfortunately, I've been advised that I should not play in the British Open," he said. "As I stated at the AT&T National, I am only going to come back when I'm 100 percent ready. I do not want to risk further injury. That's different for me, but I'm being smarter this time. I'm very disappointed and want to express my regrets to the British Open fans."

Woods said last week that he has no idea when he will play in another tournament and that he will not come back until his injuries are fully healed.

According to the Associated Press, Woods replaced in the field by Brendan Jones.

I am guessing P.E.D.'s He will nip this quickley, before Clemens' trial gets into testimony and then he will be hailed for bringing it out into the open for the PGA. You libs will love him even more.

He won two majors on that bum knee (steroids might have helped).

" Mcllroy is the new Woods " Not by a long shot.......Tiger Woods is the most consistent player
to have ever walked the golf corse. You know it and so do I. The man had personal problem ,
What ? You think he is the only person that had somthing wrong in there life,Think again,And
judge the man not the problem.....

J.N. is the most consistent player ever and he was able to have a great family. You're just another apologist. What he did was more that somthing wrong in his life, he cause this to "happen" to him. "Judge the man not the problem?" I bet that's what you do when it comes to politics too?

He'll be back.
Maybe not this year, but he'll be back.
He's too much of a competitor not to be.

He might be back but I don't think he will ever win another tournament

Revised previous posting...

“Tiger Woods has cracked. A cheater cheats in all aspects of his life.

“Golf is a game of honesty and integrity. The game relies on the individual to identify and report when he plays outside of the rules — accidental or not.”

When Tiger Wood had his knee surgery, only he and his supplier knew if he took Human Growth Hormone (HGH) or other drugs, but his hypersexual activities could have been an indication.

Knowing no one is bigger than the game of golf, Tiger Woods has lost his edge. - TK”

I love sports, played competitively for years. As I've mentioned before, I hope Tiger:
- Heals completely
- Practices like Moe Norman (it's as simple as it is complicated for Tiger) for 6 months or so, depending on his injury
- Comes back in Hawaii in January
- I predict a great comeback....

Serious question here. As someone who has never had knee, or any orthopaedic surgery, and has never suffered so much as a sprained knee, I don't know the answer. What are the odds that Tiger can ever be truly 100% at his age, and still subject the knee to the severe strains that put him in this spot in the first place? If a younger uninjured knee could not hold up to those stresses, can a 4 time repaired knee do it? Obviously, his game will have to change. Can he do it?

Serious response. There are numerous pro football players out there, Tiger's age, who've had multiple surgeries on knees, ankles, arms, you name it, and still getting pounded weekly, getting patched up, recouping and getting back in the game. Tiger, I feel is ashamed of himself and is avoiding, avoiding, avoiding--the health thing is a convenient dodge. We'll see.

It's going to be difficult for Tiger from here on out. Some guys are 35 with 29-year-old bodies, and some are 35 with 42-year-old bodies. Tiger seems to fall into the second group. He may be able to make swing changes, but that's always a risky proposition in a game where there's a fine margin between "good" play and "great" play. Also, it appears that there are younger - and better - players that can win and are not intimidated by the Tiger "aura." Like Roger Federer is discovering, once it all starts to slip away, it's tough to get it back. We shall see......

Tiger looks pretty good with that action growing on his face... work out, eat right, keep your business locked up, think before you act and you'll be back on top.

Maybe, I should rephrase that last piece.

Well when this book has finished being written, it will either be one of the greatest falls from glory, and comeback of the century stories ever or one of the biggest sports tragedies and down falls in sports history.

Chapter 2 will be the story of that comeback...6 more majors (at least) and a host of amazing golf shots, rounds, tourneys. He done wrong, that's a fact. He tried to prove he was untouched by it all but, truth be told, it messed him up, bad. This break is about his head and heart, not his leg. How can you claim to be back when you can't seem to play a decent 4 rounds. You can't. So step away -- the furour has died down -- and comeback when ready and sound of mind not just body.

You're right but nobody was talking about money and nobody cares. You sure make a weak point. HA, HA, HA!

Tiger may be wealthy beyond dreams but he has turned himself into a joke and it has taken a toll on his game. Who knows about his leg but any way you look at it he has more problems than just his leg. The two other parts that come to mind are his d*ck and his head.
