Arizona Dust Storm 2011: Amazing Video Of The Extreme Weather

When an incredible wall of sand and dust began wafting through Arizona, folks from Phoenix and other towns standing in the disaster's inevitable path grabbed their cameras and braved the elements to produce some remarkable, up-close-and-personal footage.

The dust wall, known as a haboob, reached peak heights of 8,000 to 10,000 feet, National Weather Service meteorologist Paul Iniguez told the Associated Press. By the time the storm reached Phoenix, it was an estimated 5,000 feet.

I'm curious, and since I've never lived in a an area prone to dust storms (which may be changing in the week or so if we don't finally get some rain!!), are their Haboob Warnings issued? On TV?

I was only concerned for those that were on the highway or maybe out on a ball field somewhere...
I'm guessing their isn't a Haboob Siren System... ;)

These are awesome ... I had seen a wee bit on the news awhile ago, but am just now getting around to looking at these. I seen 3 tornadoes before, but ... in awesomeness, these rival what I've seen. With the way we're messing up nature (not to mention everything else), I wouldn't be at all surprised if we're in for more awesomeness, as nature "strikes back." We're all connected together in one way or another. No man is an island unto himself, no matter how far "off the grid" we may be.

I know this is an attempt at "humor," but ... I have some really good Hispanic friends, inc. some from Mexico. Wish you could trade places with 'em for a wee while to find out what it's like.

I'm sure there are some who are nice, law abiding, self supporting mexicans in the USA. There are more who are taking jobs from the already citizens who have been here for generations, there are also those who are bleeding Medicare, this hits home. I don't appreciate them living off of medicare when I have paid into it since 1965 as have my ancestors. This is not what America is about. when one wants to"cross the border" they need to speak English, support their elders and sick without bleeding medicare. I might have more respect if you can show me where they are doing this.

Haboob? Why is Dust Storm wrong? Because it reminds one of the Dust Bowl? I like words, use them alot, even foreign ones like panjandrum or veranda, but I feel that there is a touch of politics in this 'new' choice, to treat us to a new spectacle, as if this sort of thing never happened before. On the major news services, all of whom seemed to 'haboob' simultaneously, I seemed to have missed any reference tot he Dust Bowl of old. And the solutions that were found, governmentaly. honor the Oakies, and call it a Dust Bowl.

I always enjoy to read the reactions and comments of the people. There, the real pearls of wisdom and humor comes naturally, even in the face of real threat and danger. When you see this pictures...and the floods and tsunamis and extreme weather all over (lately snow in the dryiest of desert in Chile).,wow--,--How many wake-up calls are needed, I ask myself. Although much knowledge, sivilisation,-information of ANY- thing imaginable and unimaginable,.we dont really grasp this mighty forces at work, one after another,one after another, nonstop! and really expanding through every corner of this world we inhabit..... Do we ask, ourselves and one-another where this is going? What is demanded of us? How do we go about this, and even THINK that this is far away from YOUR reality, but anyway, poor devils in that flood or that hurricane??
What does it gonna take for us to smell the roses? And God almighty, WHEN?....continues!

If any such pic exists of a weapon pointing at someone's head with a target on it please post a link. You can't because that did not happen. Making things up does not help anything or anybody.
