'All My Children,' 'One Life To Live' Soap Operas To Move Online After TV Termination

All My Children

NEW YORK -- A pair of canceled ABC soaps may find new life on the Internet.

ABC has licensed "All My Children" and "One Life to Live" in a multi-year deal allowing their stories to continue beyond their imminent broadcast termination. The announcement was made Thursday by the network and by Prospect Park, the media company that has acquired both of the 4-decade-old programs.

Prospect Park said it will produce and deliver the programs via online formats and other platforms, although it offered no specifics. There also was no mention of when either show might resume under the agreement or whether their current actors would be retained.

"All My Children" will disappear from ABC's schedule after Sept. 23. "One Life to Live" will end its run on the network in January.

i don't really watch tv much anymore, you flip the channels and it's always the same thing, cop show, hospital show, judged show, "insert persons job here" tv show. Nothing original anymore on any station.

I was praying for "Stargate Universe," to be announced. Dammit!

I see headlines like these and I keep hoping, "Firefly..."

Seriously. I'm mean... they bring back soap operas and *not* space operas? Really?!? This world SUCKS.

I'm sure what would continue would be a low budget edition. The big name stars would be gone and you would just have the hacks left.

...and I think to myself...what a wonderful world.

Why would one have to be unemployed to watch? I happen to work evenings to make ends meet and provide for my family AND I like soaps, AND I have a good education to back it all up.

I'm surprised SoapNet hasn't dived in to take these shows on.

They can't. They're going off the air next year and being replaced by Disney Jr. Who's the one with the brains that thought kids would be up at 2 in the morning to watch tv? Palese...they need to rethink that idea and KEEP SoapNet on for just these kinds of situations. And when special reports come on and you miss part of your show that's shown on SN!

I think a good idea would be to share the channel - have Disney Jr up and running during the day and switch to SoapNet at night. The Cartoon Network does something like that - it has kids' cartoons during the day, then switches to "Adult Swim" at night.

This is a great move that proves watching TV online is the future, and another great victory for turning internet access into "dumb pipes".

I am 56 yrs old and have watched AMC for over 30 years. I know..I have no life. Anyway....I would guess the majority of those who still watch the soaps are my age and older. I really enjoy what the internet has to offer...HOWEVER, I know so many people who still do not own a computer and I doubt they will purchase one just so they can watch their soaps online. I do not see this being very successful.

I'm 60 and was the first on my block to own a computer and haven't had a land line or cable in over three years. Get with it, Granny -- Erica Cain lives on!!

I'm 31 and I love the internets but I am not going to watch online its too much of a hassle and its not the same. I can barely watch a 22 min episode of 30 Rock and I love Liz Lemon and I love AMC but it won't be the same Im still bummed

I posted comments saying ABC should take the shows to the internet when they were first canceled. Finally some common sense.

If only President Obama would have read my comments about health care and not extending the Bush Tax cuts...

Does anybody watch these anymore?

Huh? I usually read English pretty well but I'm still confused, does this mean that "One Life to Live" my favorite soap ever, in it's current form will be broadcast on the Internet after it's taken off the air in 2012? If so HOOOOORAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!

Finally! The of the oldest forms of "entertainment" finally makes the jump to the modern age!

Perhaps now they can bring down the average age of the soap viewer from 65!

Good news for them, still hoping that another network will take them on though.
