Anna Paquin in 'V' Magazine Talks About Being Bisexual

Paquin

The 'Transformation' issue of the highly-stylized V Magazine hits newsstands today. Featuring a bevy of celebs, V sat down with 'True Blood' star Anna Paquin to talk about her dynamic career, which she describes as "backward" and, of course, her much talked-about sexual identity.

In V Paquin dressed in bright colors and a (sometimes) platinum hairstyle that's more Marilyn than Sookie. The article inquires about the actress' new label--no, not as Stephen Moyer's wife, but as bisexual.

Word first came out that Paquin identified herself as bisexual when she filmed a public service announcement for an LGBT advocacy group. While the actress likes to keep her love life out of the limelight, when asked to participate in helping promote gay rights, she said the choice was obvious.

"There is a lot of prejudice against us but the more people talk about it, the less of a deal it will be. Who people choose to sleep with - or spend their lives with-shouldn't matter, not that anyone particularly cares who I'm attracted to."

i think the only reason why she talks about it so much. is people keep on asking about it. while i thought it was kind of cool when she first came out. it is no big deal to me. she likes what she likes. had she never done the psa. we probably would have eventually found out, maybe in a memoir or something. but it isn't like she was parading down the street with an "I'm bi" tee shirt on, so i hardly thing that she is talking about it to get attention.

Anna, you'd be surprised, seriously. I'm a bit disappointed at such a blanket statement about how no one cares who you are attracted to because the truth is, people do care. They care enough to throw hateful and angry words around. Maybe in your Hollywood bubble, you don't see it often enough, but it happens.

Unless someone is attempting to sleep with you, why would anyone's sexuality matter to anyone else?

it really shouldn't. but most people need to feel better than someone. whether it is sexual preference, socio-economic status, ethnicity, race, religion. hating someone for who they love is just one of the many ways to say "i'm better than you, because i reality i don't feel good about myself."

Ok, my question is this. Are you saying that marriage to a anyone let alone a man not negate future relationships with either a man or a woman? I think my query is a valid one. I mean, why get married to "anyone" if as it sounds, you've not ruled out some thangs.

I have been in long term, exclusive relationships with people of both sexes. I was married and faithful to my wife. She knew I was bi because I told her before we got serious. All being bi means is that you are willing to express love and commitment, and express it sexually to folks of either sex.

Until folks marry they most often play the field. It's the same for gays and bi folks too. No big deal.

why would it ? if you get married you commit to a person and forsake all others, if your into that, nothing to do with gender.

I'm glad Anna came out during that ad. Do you really think bi/gay/trans people want to listen to a straight person talk about the discrimination we are all too familiar with? I much prefer hearing it from someone who understands and shares the same struggles.

Frankly, I hear about straight sexualities more often than queer ones. The heteros on here really should look at themselves when they talk about "attention-seeking Bis", because when prompted, straight folks will always moan about once again hearing about gay issues. Fools, YOU ARE CONSIDERED THE NORM, we have to listen/read/watch your socially-acceptable orientation whether we want to or not.

Also, for those calling Bis "fauxsexuals", just stop. You aren't anywhere near being a Psychologist or an expert on gender identity and social constructs. Your A.A. in Psychology doesn't count.

I love when people say "nobody cares" or "she won't stop talking about it" do they not read anything? it's the interviewers who keep asking her about it, if you don't want them to ask then don't buy their magazines, visit their websites or read/watch anything with her in it that isn't a scripted show and you'll be spared from having to hear about her personal life, otherwise just stop whining about it! nobody forces you to pay attention to her, hell nobody forced you to read this "article"

I am a Canadian and I have to say that she is the age group of so many Canadian actresses who seem to think it is cool to be bi-sexual. My sister when she was in University ten years ago roomed with an up and coming actress who declared herself bi-sexual as did her group of women friends. It was the in thing to be bi-sexual. I noted at the time that it seemed to be the women who were doing this with the encouragement of their male friends who made every effort to declare themselves heterosexul. While I can not claim to have concrete knowledge of her sexuality, too many of these young women think bi-sexuality will garner them a great deal of attention and make them more acceptable in the movie industry. They are so busy pretending to fit in with everything that they forget who they are. We all need to be who we are: gay, straight, transgender etc. and stop the attention getting declarations. I hope she is saying who she is, because many people are looking at her as a role model in coming out and will be saddened if it is shown that she is treating this as just another fad to use and discard when it suits her.

Is there a bisexual recruitment drive going on? And here I thought sexual preferences had a biological component.

Somebody's been listening to the religious right too long.
