Tot Can Only Eat 5 Foods

Imagine only being able to eat yogurt, strawberries, blueberries, grapes and avocados.

Those foods -- in addition to a special formula -- are all two-year-old Landon Schultz can eat without vomiting or having severe diarrhea, ABC's Good Morning America reported.

That's because Landon has food protein induced enterocolitis syndrome, an extremely rare and mysterious disease that makes him unable to eat most foods. The toddler is unable to eat 27 foods -- even broccoli and sweet potatoes -- or else he is in danger of going into shock and has to be taken to the hospital.

Usually kids who have the disease outgrow it in a few years and they don't have such a severe reaction to so many foods, but Landon's case is especially rare and severe, GMA reported.

Because of his dietary restrictions, Landon's parents have to get creative by cooking his allowable foods in a myriad of different ways.

"(Shaved) ice is an extra special treat for Landon," his mother, Fallon Schultz, told GMA. The family also purees strawberries and blueberries to try to mix things up.

There's no cure, but Landon's family and doctors just hope that the toddler will eventually outgrow the disease. His parents still teach him about the different foods, even if he is unable to partake, GMA reported.

"Maybe one day if he does get better, we won't have a really hard time getting him to eat," his mother told GMA.
