Brothers, 3 And 4, Found Dead In Car In Wisconsin

Brothers Dead In Car

By TODD RICHMOND   07/ 6/11 09:25 PM ET   AP

MADISON, Wis. -- The dead bodies of 3- and 4-year-old Wisconsin brothers were found in a parked car early Wednesday morning and the boyfriend of the children's mother was arrested, Madison police said.

The children's names have not been released and a cause of death has not been determined pending autopsies, said police spokesman Joel DeSpain. He said investigators are treating the case as a double homicide and the boyfriend is their primary suspect.

Police said the boys' 22-year-old mother arrived at police headquarters Tuesday afternoon and reported she had an altercation involving a knife a day earlier with her 28-year-old boyfriend at their apartment. Police didn't offer any further details.

The Associated Press is not identifying the boyfriend because he has not yet been formally charged. Police have not named the mother.

Several hours later, the woman returned to the couple's apartment and contacted the boys' biological father. The father told the woman that her boyfriend had picked the children up from his apartment. The boyfriend told him he was going to take the boys to meet with the mother's family and go shopping for shoes.

About 45 minutes later, the mother called police again and reported the children were missing and they were with her boyfriend. Police checked various addresses and tracked the boyfriend's movements through his cell phone, Police Capt. Joe Balles said.

Around 1 a.m. Wednesday morning, the boyfriend called police and told them he was in a vehicle with a woman who had convinced him to turn himself in.

A few minutes later he pulled into a police station parking lot and was arrested on a parole violation stemming from the alleged domestic dispute, Balles said. He didn't offer any details about the other woman.

The children weren't in the car and the search for them continued. Balles declined to comment on what, if anything, the man told officers after he was arrested.

Shortly before 3 a.m., an officer discovered a gray Volvo that police believed the boyfriend had been driving earlier in the day parked in front of a medical testing lab on Madison's east side. The officer discovered the children's bodies in the car.

Balles said the lab apparently has no connection to the case and he didn't know who owned the Volvo.

Chief Noble Wray said surveillance cameras in the parking lot show the vehicle was parked there around 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Online court records show the boyfriend has a lengthy criminal record.

He was convicted of felony battery by a prisoner in 2002, fleeing an officer and disorderly conduct in 2003, 2nd-degree recklessly endangering safety in 2004 and false imprisonment in 2006. In that case, he accused his girlfriend of cheating on him and held her in her basement with a pellet gun.

This is just proof that you don't just let ANYONE in your childrens lives. Your children are supposed to be your LIFE! You protect them, you feed them, nurture them. So why would you let a convict in their daily life?

Wisconsin law enforcement did NOT issue an Amber Alert and they should have! It doesn't matter who the mother was, or what her past is. Who the father is, or what is past is, who the boyfriend is was HUGE because HE had the children. The mother reported these boys MISSING and with a violent criminal! Come on...law enforcement in Wisconsin dropped the ball. They were notified TWICE and failed to issue an Amber Alert. These boys bodies were found in a very populated place. My heart breaks for these two innocent souls who never had a chance or help from anyone.

Maybe the Casey Anothony jury can pull a double shift and acquit this piece of garbage too.

Yeah....and they probably would. Innocents get no justice.

those poor boys..what gets me is that she told the police she had had an altercation with a knife with the boyfriend..why didnt she report it then..he would have been put in jail..and at least away from her children. She is as much at fault as the boyfriend. I would never leave my child with a man who wasnt the biological father..no one knows anyone..these days....its sad..but true..if you have children..u need to put them first in your life...not your romances..whoever u chooose to be with..u have to think of your children first.

I agree, but, the children were with the biological father, the children's father allowed the boyfriend to pick up the children. When the mother reported the incident she did not know that the boyfriend had the children. I feel so sad for the mother, father and family of those children.

It's always the boyfriend and the mother always seems to be too young or irresponsible to be having kids in the first place.

I'm not a single mom, but if something ever happened to my husband, I think I would rather be alone than risk allowing someone in my home that could hurt my kids.

Been in that situation and did exactly as you suggest. I could not trust just anyone with my children's well-being. Just had this conversation with one of my neices who broke up with her daughter's father. I pray she'll listen, and always put her daughter first. Learn to live alone until you find just the right one to invite into your life.

Will there ever be an end to all of these horrible crimes against innocent children? Our Godless society continues to treat human life as worthless. Sad, sad commentary in the age we live in.
May God help our society which appears to be coming apart rapidly.

First of all I think that people are pointing at the wrong person. Everyone is so quick to assume the boyfriend did something to the boys....read the story people....the mother waited 45 minutes before she called the police about them. If I contact the father who were suppose to have the kids and he told me this story I would of have called the police immediately. This can go both ways who is to say because this man has a lenghty background, who are people to believe would do something to the children first??? If the father was spending time with his children, why would he just let them go with the boyfriend....any father with sense would have called the mother first to verify his story..... and trust me if the boyfriend had a hidden agenda his body lanuguage would have shown. I do agree with most people on here Ladies stop introducing every man you meet to your children...Some people are put in your lives for a season but when you try to stretch that season out to eternity thats when the Real person comes out. Stop trying to use your in home man as your babysitter.....Take your kids to a real daycare and be stress free of worrying about what is happening to your kids.....Thank God I was born with common sense and the feel for people!!!!!!

If the boyfriend did kill those children, she is as guilty as he is,no sympathy for her at all.Poor babies, the mother, who should have been protecting them, let them die, neither her nor the boyfriend are even human, hopefully the system that let him out of prison will be charged as well.

What terrible parents. Her for exposing those children to their killer and the father for letting his boys go anywhere alone with him. So very sad.

Mothers stop dating violent losers, bringing your children around them, and using them as babysitters.

Reading his record and how recient the offences were why wasn't this guy in jail? The next question is why was this women"mother" with this criminal and letting him around her children? Poor little boys never stood a chance and the biological father has to be feeling pretty sick right know.

He was probably her only option when she had to go hook for meth or crack.

Maybe where dead little kids are involved, you could manage to keep your desperation just a little quieter. Or a lot quieter.

YOU are TIRED? That's your reaction to this tragedy: YOU. TIRED. Your empathy is underwhelming.
