Libya Street Art: Anti-Gaddafi Caricatures And Posters Pop Up In Benghazi And Other Rebel Cities (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 07/07/11 12:39 PM ET   Updated: 09/06/11 06:12 AM ET

Libyan rebel artists are taking their aversion toward Muammar Gaddafi to an especially visible level, creating street caricatures that ridicule the nation's embattled leader and his notorious eccentricities.

Throughout Benghazi and other rebel-populated cities, renderings of Gaddafi are found on walls and buildings, ranging from crude-looking graffiti to more elaborate works which depict the Libyan leader as an octopus or covered with Nazi swastikas.

Take a look at some of the most provocative images from the rising street movement here:

These drawings are like what little boys draw in public bathrooms. The rebels are looting and destroying property and now defacing it. They are immature and the idea of them leading a country would be hilarious if it wasn't likely to happen. Even if they only ever control Eastern Libya, the people there will live in fear.

Wow. From the comments here, it seems everyone is involved in both supporting and opposing Qaddafi, and everyone is very sure of it.

I'm surprised it took a whole 7 photos to see a Star of David.

Fear not, I'm sure a lot of the text surrounding the graffiti was anti semitic too.

There's this thing about Moammar being Jewish. A head-scratcher, that one.

The Israeli Mossad sent in their best artists, with plenty of practice from shaking things up in Palestine. They are in the middle of every abomination.

This one is particularly Anti-Semitic and shows how twisted the Muslims in Arab lands tend to be. Some of the drawings were good, especially the one with the leader being stabbed in the head, or pulled by the skin of his scalp. I can't tell which it is. The Star of David should not have been abused and the sentiment makes me think the Libyans should be on their own to implode.

Your generalization shows a deep level of ignorance and superficiality. The Libyan people have proven smarter than you by seeing things for what they are. Isreali mercenaries are aiding gaddafi cling to power and crush his own people:

Psssssst Eddie:

Don't look now but Al Queda in Islamic Maghreb just allied themselves with Gaddafi.

Of course, once a terrorist always a terrorist. I wonder if Al Queda will supply Gaddafi the suicide bombers he threatened Europe with:

They depicts Gaddafi as Black. These rebels are Al CIA Da, indeed. Al Qiada is a faction of CIA and they are not only terrorists but they are trying to take advantage of the white libyan racism to promote the Divide and Conquer Strategy so that the oil companies can control indefinitely Libya oil.

As with Libya, the West seeks to reduce the enemy to one person to be hated, using Orwell's recipe in his book "1984". Milosevic, Hussein, Osama bin Laden, now Gaddafi.

That groundwork has also been laid for Chavez, but so far without any follow-up.

Amazing to see a graffiti representing Gaddafi as Jewish/Israeli. Just who are these rebels?
08:07 PM on 07/08/2011
Whoever they are... the Feds are making sure we get involved early and often so they will owe us their "obedience". Of course if they don't take our bribes we can always bomb them into submission as well!!

If it means all of Libya will be bombed to rubble... we WILL find a compliant puppet.

I like how in the next to the last pic they show no matter what they can still be anti-semites.

A picture tells more than 1,000 words. The fact that Gaddafi's cartooned face is more Africanised with the express purpose to demonize is telling. This is the subtext of the Libyan war.

As many have already known the sub-text of the Benghazi uprising is a racial one. The irony of this is that Libya is in Africa and is the indigenous home to a significant black population. Some years ago Gaddafi put that number at 30%. In recent years Gaddafi's Pan Africanism expressed itself by allowing easy entrance of thousands of other Africans to work and live in Libya.

Thus in the present ongoing civil war many thousands of such had to flee Libya on account of pogroms waged against them by the vigilante rebels of Benghazi and the other feudal flag fliers. In fact, this is not the first time: 6 years or so ago blacks were attacked and murdered by Libyan vigilante groups who were upset to see migrant blacks working and prospering there.

The Benghazi vigilante types and their NATO backers claim that Gaddafi is repressive. Yet the Libyan regime is less repressive than all the other regimes of North Africa and much less so than Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey, Syria, etc.

In economic matters Libya is far ahead of any African state and any West Asian state[ Saudi Arabia included] in terms of per capita income, GINI coefficient, life expectancy(highest in Africa), spending on health, education, housing, etc.

The cartoons say it all.

dude, you have some serious issues...

The pics look like Ghaddfi to me, maybe you might want to check up on cartoon drawing...you got me lost with all the useless information posted...what the in the world does black Africans have to do with this?!?!?!?!!?!?
02:12 PM on 07/08/2011
Well it does have a lot to do with Africans. The vile and lazy Benghazi settler trash better watch out. It won't take much for the rest of Africa to expel them back to wherever they came from.

Black Africans and Africa itself has a lot to do with it. Gaddafi is very instrumental to the African Union and as Mansa said Libya holds a lot of wealth, not to mention natural resources in Africa are very great. If Ghaddafi holds tight to Libya then it will give other African countries the additional tools needed to severe finaically abused and unwanted ties with European countries and that's a $eriou$ issue for them.

The cartoonish huge lips, large flat nose, bones and buffalo hat is very telling that whoever drew it thinks of Ghaddafi as some negative Black African witch doctor.

I boo-booed. I wrote that I'd like to see the art on the...... [concrete structure that separates Palestinians from their land]. I guess the A-word is a no-no. Can't call it that. The barricades are for "self-defense." So they didn't post my ....request for art. The cameras are on, Big Brother is watching what we write and listening to our phone conversations. Be careful not to use any banned words that will call attention to yourself.
