Rita Wilson Writes About Meeting The Queen In 'Harper's Bazaar'

The state banquet at Buckingham palace was, in the most honest and unadulterated way, an event.

It was, of course, a big deal for the president and the first lady but, just out of view, there were two other Americans you might know: Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson. And they, too, were feeling the weight of this significant dinner.

As two of the most likable and respected couples in Hollywood, they're seldom playing the role of the nervous house guest. In a brilliant display of the-shoe-on-the-other-foot, Rita Wilson writes in the August issue of Harper's Bazaar, which is chock-full of adorably kooky features, that even movie stars get star-struck.

The scene is like that of a Lucy episode or even a goofy Tom Hanks film. Wilson peppers her royal tale with nervousness, a very un-stiff lip and even the occasional breach in decorum.

"Still, I know the head of MI6 is somewhere, so I am almost compelled to lift my skirt and shout, 'Donna Karan! Donna Karan! Nude to waist!'"

The actress' amusing tale makes you want to rewrite history. At the very least, it would have livened it up a bit.
