Wisconsin Concealed Carry Gun Law Signed By Governor Scott Walker

Wisconsin Concealed Carry Law

07/ 8/11 05:45 PM ET   AP

ROTHSCHILD, Wis. — Wisconsin has become the 49th state to legalize the carrying of concealed weapons.

Gov. Scott Walker signed a bill Friday removing the state's ban. Except for a few minor aspects, the bulk of the law goes into effect in November.

Gun supporters say legalizing concealed carry in Wisconsin has been long overdue. Opponents argue that it won't curb crime and will put more guns on the street.

Under Wisconsin's law, people who obtain a permit and go through training will be allowed to carry concealed weapons in most public buildings, including the state Capitol and city halls, unless a sign is posted saying they are not permitted.

With the legalization in Wisconsin, Illinois is now the only state that doesn't allow concealed carry.

Good deal. Now I feel much more safe. A person who has no need to carry a gun now does because he thinks he does. This is necessary?

Necessity is not relevant.
12:58 AM on 07/13/2011
Yes. Yes it is. Why do you feel qualified to make the determination as to who has a 'need' to carry?
03:19 AM on 07/12/2011
If our elected officials cannot act in a responsible manner in regard to firearms, then what is preventing the general public from also acting as irresponsible?

>>ARIZONA STATE REP. POINTS HER ‘RASPBERRY-PINK’ LOADED GUN AT JOURNALIST | It’s 2011, the year that Republicans point their guns at the media. First came Maine state Rep. Frederick Ladd Wintle (R) who threatened to shoot a photographer in a Dunkin Donuts parking lot. Now comes Arizona state Sen. Lori Klein (R). While showing off her “raspberry-pink handgun,” she “aimed it at a journalist” who was interviewing her about her pro-gun positions just outside the Senate chambers. The gun, a .380 Ruger, was loaded, and Klein did not have the safety on. Klein, however, told the reporter not to worry because “I just didn’t have my hand on the trigger.”

I do not need permission from anyone, especially the state, to carry a gun.

My gun is concealed anyway. No one knows I am armed. The only place I have had to go without it is court houses and they do not even ban guns. They only prefer visitors be disarmed. The bullies with badges, looney judges and those who know someone who knows someone are all armed leaving all visitors defenseless.

Anyway, get a gun, learn how to use it, practice shooting frequently and keep it on you at all times. Your safety is your responsibility and no one elses.

I think that was Operation Castaway running out of Florida. Gunwalker was running out of AZ.

It does make one wonder just how many of these DoJ operations arming drug gangs was going on.

Our rivers of blood never arrived either. In fact, the City of Seattle attempted to ban legal carry in city parks (in direct contravention of state low) and after the ban was thrown out of court, we didn't get the rivers of blood in Seattle Parks either. Not even a few drops of blood.

I realize that past performance is no indicator of future results, but when someone is that wrong you would think that it would cast doubt on their predictive ability.

There's only space at the Huffington Post for gun prohibitionists to write about how the Heller ruling hasn't actually changed anything. Not enough space to cover any of the cases. Not even Ezell.

Let's all act surprised that the NRA has once again copied SAF.

The family feud between Gura and the NRA contiues. .

If you go to the NRA web site, you will find nary a word on Ezell and it is one of the most important cases since McDonald.

I have to go along with the jerk on this one. I am a Dem who has had a carry permit for 35 years. I don't think it adds as many guns as it does doubts that a mugger can get over on a stranger. I like having that edge in a vulnerable situation. That is the ONLY thing I agree with him on.

I suspect that many individuals who oppose the implementation of a "shall-issue" based concealed weapons permit system in the state of Wisconsin believe that Wisconsin residents are more inclined toward violent, criminal behaviour than are residents of other states.  Such a belief, that Wisconsin residents are mentally unstable and that they hold a disregard for the rule of law, would explain the numerous predictions of increased incidents of violent crime resulting from such a permit system, in spite of a lack of similar increases in any other state where such a system has been implemented.

Excellent position, many here seem to take partisan issue with Mr. Walker instead of taking the law on its own merit. Like me, I absolutely dislike Mr. Obama's overall approach to the Office of President, yet have willingly applauded when he did something I consider correct.

Applying the test of public good or the prevention of harm, how does this bill promote public good? Or alternatively, how does it prevent harm? Or is the concealed carry bill pandering to the sensibilities of an organized minority who want this priviledge of concealing a gun on their person as they walk about in public simply because they want to?

List of countries by firearm-related death rate - Wikipedia. The statistics are stated as a percentage per 100,000 of population

US ranks 5th in the world for gun related deaths from all causes, homicides, suicides and accidental deaths. Statistically, there would be a coorelation with "availability" and "lethality".That reality is not a reflection on any gun owning individual.

Death by automobile mishap, too, is a serious problem and those statistics are rightfully met with increases safety requirements in cars and common sense regulations on driving behavior. So what is the problem with some gun regulation??

I am glad to hear the we "have some gun regulation". A large majority of gun owners appear to still oppose "any regulation", reasonable or not, as a matter of principle derived from the US Constitution. Can we all agree that some regulation is in order and begin to negotiate the specifics? This is not a slippery slope to take away individual freedom but a call to be reasonable in the interests of promoting a better society.

Correlation does not imply causation. Nor is there a correlation when one brakes the numbers down by state or smaller.

Half of US gun deaths are suicides, no "gun regulation" would end those. If we took mental health more seriously we would cut that number in half. Twisting numbers to fit a narrow policy objective is not good public policy. Nor is what is usually proposed by those that claim they want "some" regulation.

Excluding suicides and accidental deaths, the number of homicide deaths is still quite large in the US by world standards. Gun advocates and the NRA are NOT campaigning for improved mental health services. Can the number of homicides by gun be reduced? If so, how? One strategy would be to reduce the impulsive or impaired use of guns, for example.

Because people who are willing to murder governors are very concerned with abiding by relatively minor laws, especially laws passed by that same governor. This kind of criminal is the "common sense" criminal that can only be stopped with "common sense" gun laws! /sarcasm

You know what? I exagerate, while the crime rate is much worse than here, I go to places that are far more dangerous.Frankly it's the attitude that bothers me, namely the one you see in this discussion, do I really want to spend my money supporting people that think that my country is some communist dystopia because we don't have conceal and carry laws? I'll just do what I usually do, use it for stop over flights.
