It was the collective gasp heard round the world when Casey Anthony was declared not guilty of first-degree murder last week. Now, with only days left to serve behind bars, the media is chomping at the bit, taking bets on who will get the first interview with the woman who once stared the death penalty in the face. But does Anthony's freedom mean she'll be seeing some major dollar signs once she decides to open her mouth? Jerry Springer thinks not.
After Anthony's acquittal, false rumors that Springer had offered the 25-year-old $1 million to appear on his show began to circulate. But after shooting down the fabricated offer, Springer is now saying that no network should pay the Tot Mom for an interview, and if they do, don't expect him to watch.
"It's a horrible story," Springer told me. "Why would I want to watch an interview? I didn't even watch the trial."
Springer was so upset after the false reporting of any monetary offer to Anthony, his spokesman, Gary Rosen, set the record straight.
"There is absolutely no truth to this story whatsoever," Rosen told me. "'The Jerry Springer Show has not made any monetary offer to Casey Anthony and her family to appear on the program, nor will we."
Anthony, who is expected to be free later this week, might want to think again if she thinks being acquitted for first degree murder is going to make her a wealthy woman. When I asked Springer if any media outlet should pay her for an interview he simply responded, "no."
