I suppose the trouble with Coronation Street is that it has just run out of ideas. It has been on for many years and in the end you come to the point when you just start copying other programmes for plot lines or having unrelistic plots.

Maybe the programme has had its day and needs to put out to grass.

I have been watching Corrie for nearly 50 years in Canada...now and for quite some time every new storyline is more unlikely and absurd as the one before...we are about 10 months behind here, the tram tragedy should be shown here around the end of Sept. so I'll watch until then and probably pack it in after that...the script writing has become rather an insult.

I too have been enjoying Corrie since time immemuriel (Stanley) and it saddens me to watch it go down the pan (so to speak). The plot lines are totally unbelievable and to have one lesbian, one gay, one transsexual and one transvestite in one street is too laughable. It used to be character driven; that was its huge strength. It is not like that now. Trying too hard to be like the soap on BBC. Poor Corrie. It deserves better, especially in such a magnificent anniversary year. Don't know what the creator of it thinks (Tony Warren).

LOl!

It seems that the producer Phil Collinson has a bit of a gay agenda there.

Several gay characters and a transvestite???!

As i say to any ham handed attempt at "diversity", stop looking at YOURSELF and what you want and think should be reflected and look at actual demographics. Because I'm sure gay people socialize mostly with other gays, blacks with other blacks, Latino's etc. etc. The real world rarely looks like our insular little world.

And if anyone has ever looked at demographics, the gay population (in the US) breaks down to under 1% gay, under 1% lesbian, under 1% bisexual. I'm sure it's similar in Britian. And there are where your ratings went. In trying to over appeal to gays, you lost everyone else.

A lesson is to be learned there in the liberal community of the US.
