Trent Archie, Convicted Murderer, Escapes From Texas Jail (VIDEO)

First Posted: 07/10/11 06:01 PM ET Updated: 09/09/11 06:12 AM ET

Two inmates attacked four corrections officers in Huntsville, Texas on June 28 allowing 29-year-old convicted murderer Trent Archie and fellow inmate Davis McLeskey, 23, to escape, reports KTLA.

The entire ordeal was caught on tape and has been released to the public. Archie and McLeskey had asked Walker County Jail officers if they could use the phones near the jail's booking office and pretended to stay on the phone for about 22 minutes. When officers went to open the door and check on another inmate, the two men attacked the officers and escaped.

The staff was trying to be compassionate, officials told ABC News, when they decided to let the two inmates use the phones in the early morning so that Archie could reach his mother before she left home to deliver newspapers.

McLeskey didn't make it far and quickly ended up in hand cuffs, but Archie escaped by jumping over a gate. His vacation from prison was cut short when police found and arrested him in a southwest Houston home on July 1.

Escapes have happened before at Walker County Jail, says ABC News. Officials told them that the jail is 30-years-old and needs a better layout. "Jail is out of sight, out of mind until there's a big problem," said a prison administrator.

They put convicted MURDERERS in a cheap jail and expect them to sit and do nothing? That was a dumb thing to do. How did He get over a fence if there is supposed to be electric barbed wire on it?

You see, the death penalty is obsolete because we can prevent inmate escape 100% of the time.

Oh wait...

As long as you're willing to let the innocent be executed as as the price you pay for capital punishment....http://www.innocenceproject.org/

Actually, capital punishment might be a valid response in a utopian world, but absolutely useless and an arm of concrete injustice in the real world.

States that rush to judgment and to execution have shown in the main that they are incapable of responding correctly when death row inmates are found to be innocent, unless there is a powerful media outcry.

The theory is that the quicker the individual is executed, the less likely the state can be proven wrong.

This problem is prevalent in states where police are underpaid and law enforcement urgent calls for gun control are ignored.

It is incredible to observe the extent that so-called conservatives work hard to maintain the level of violent crime simply to pull the fictitious law and order script out every election

Rush to judgement? Most death row inmates wait 10-20 years before they're executed! And that time frame is filled with an endless amount of appeals.

These officers are not properly trained. Bouncers and trained COs know you use a proper choke hold to prevent the person from escaping or doing harm. Yes, if you do a choke hold right, it won't kill the person, but simply subdue them.

Any prison corrections officer who has contact with prisoners do not carry a firearm. They may have tasers and a club, but no guns. Imagine if those officers had firearms, chances are those officers would be dead. Then any officers that confronted them could have been shot too. Only specially trained C.O.s have weapons.

This is definitely a good example of why changes need to be made in some jails/prisons....there appears to be a level of complacency, and jail/prisons are definitely one place you cannot afford to be complacent. (It happens....everyone at some point is guilty of being complacent...but how STUPID when inmates are out and about). Things happen in the blink of an eye, and inmates have nothing better to do than plot, plan, and execute. They're watching, and they can read the guards far better than the guards can read the inmates most times. The guards are fortunate this is all that happened, but it looks as though their policies need to be changed. If an inmate couldn't call from his unit, then he had no business being on the phone outside of his unit. NOTHING is worth jeopardizing someone's safety. Whether it's another inmate's or guard's.

Those two inmates where sitting right in front of the guards noses behind the glass (wearing bright orange jumpsuits no less) like crocodilles waiting for the wildebeast to step into the water. Unbelievable. smh

Don't forget the bald male guards who fight like girls. Together, they make a great team.
