7-Eleven Free Slurpee Day 2011: Where To Find The Offer

7eleven Free Slurpees

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 07/11/11 04:49 PM ET Updated: 09/10/11 06:12 AM ET

7-Eleven is giving out free slurpees today at locations nationwide in coordination with its 84th birthday (appropriately 7-11).

The convenience store chain plans to give out 5 million Slurpees in all, 7.11 ounces each, according to a news release. Senior Vice President at 7-Eleven Jesus Delgado-Jenkins says that's the most Slurpees the company has given out in a single day, with 3 million handed out two years ago.

The Slurpee is 7-Eleven's popular (and trademarked) drink that comes in dozens of flavors. Anyone who stops by a 7-Eleven today gets one for free, as in years past.

While the product may be free, USA Today notes that 7-Eleven typically sees a spike in sales on "Free Slurpee Day" and there's a reason for it: people often want more after the 7.11-ounce taste. Adds a professor:

"Free is magic," says Barry Schwartz, professor of psychology at Swarthmore College. "If you offer something for free, people will gladly spend money to get it."

The 7-Eleven franchise was founded in Dallas, Texas, in 1927 in Dallas, Texas. It now has more than 39,000 stores around the world, making it the largest convenience retailer.

I always take advantage of free slurpee day... it's a great idea for the company to market themselves, make people want slurpees and get the word out about them. 7-Eleven is a great company, but like many nationwide businesses it can have some weak spots. I was surfing the internet and I found this site where people can vent about poor customer service or products they received... it can get really funny. I would recommend you to check it out here: http://ventme.com/companies/view/94

Scam! All of the locations around me "ran out" of the cups provided to give out the free slurpees. So unless you went at 8am , slurpee breakfast anyone?, you're screwed. The web site says the promotion was 12am-12am. 711 didn't provide enough cups, I bet they figure we would whip out our wallets once we realize its not free.

7-11 is a dying corporation from the looks of it. The franchises haven't been renovated in years, and they generally don't sell gas which puts them at a disadvantage.

7-11 is a Japanese company.

For that, you don't need a Slurpee. Your brain is already frozen.
