CNN's Howard Kurtz Rips His Network's Coverage Of Casey Anthony Case (VIDEO)

Howard Kurtz had harsh words for the media and its coverage of the Casey Anthony trial.

On Sunday's "Reliable Sources," the CNN host attacked his own network for going "utterly bonkers" in its coverage of the not guilty verdict. Kurtz called the coverage "deafening and overwhelming."

One of the show's panelists, investigative reporter Diane Dimond, noted that it was CNN's sister station, HLN that followed the trial from its infancy.

Kurtz reiterated his disgust for the Anthony obsession on Monday, during Fox Business' "Imus in the Morning."

"It was great in terms of ratings, I thought it was appalling in terms of the way it just seemed to take over the American media," Kurtz said. "It's basically a local crime story. There are a lot of kids killed in the United States every year."

Imus shot back, "You're part of the problem. You're part of the media. Become a brain surgeon if you're so upset with the media."

Surprise! Surprise! this is my first time reading the Huffpost media re. Casey Anthony; did not know I would be able to find objective comments.

HLN and Nancy Grace has jumped the shark. It is disgusting, jurors running for their lives, is beyond the pall. It was the verdict, live with it. Not guilty. What is the point of a jury trial? First Nancy Grace has her trial and verdict, never finds any one non guilty, in her book they are all guilty. No wonder the people watching her have went off the deep end, they are no better than the person they are pointing their fingers at. Headline reads Nancy Grace angrily defends, when does she ever do anything without anger?

For anyone who watched the CNN video at the bottom of the article:

I found this to be an extremely interesting clip. The three individuals in the clip are essentially trying to distance themselves, or "rise above" the "media bias" surrounding the Casey Anthony trial. What they do not realize is that, before claims of "objectivity" and "neutrality" in this country by journalists, newspapers were sponsored by political parties. As a result, they were just as biased as these three people are claiming the majority of today's media are. I would argue that, as humans, it is important to own our biases instead of trying to cloak them in a veil of objectivity, as these three are claiming should be the ultimate goal of the media.

The only high drama coverage I care to watch is the investigation into the corrupt dealings of Rupert Murdock and Roger Ailes.

Will we classify that as "Journalism"?

I think the reason this became "Jerry Springer" like, was those 31 days when she never reported her child missing. That is just hard to wrap your mind around. When HLN decided to show the entire trial, what else would you expect?

I've stopped watching CNN and Headline News - Becasue 24/7 there is nothing but screeching, anti-Casey Anthony screeds and vicious, over the backyard fence manufactured gossip and feigned outrage by overly botoxed, pancake make-up wearing Tammy Fay Baker look alikes.

I agree! That is why I stopped watching HLN with Robin Meade. I love Robin Meade in the morning, but her show was "mission creeping" up on that story as each week more and more of her broadcast focused on that case, and those ridicuous people fighting outside the courthouses and making absolute butts of themselves and still do. I was tired of hearing about it. I even wrote a letter into the show asking to NOT focus on it beyond the blog, but it just puked out even more! Now I am tentative to even switch back to her show for fear it might me still fixated on it like that Nancy Grace.

Kurtz is right....it was a disgusting display of american mainstream "journalism" at it's absolute worst. Highlighting EVERYTHING that has gone wrong with the media since the advent of 24/7 news networks.

I honestly would support a law banning them.

I find it repugnant that HP has given Imus any PR. This dinosaur was rightfully banished to the wasteland of satellite radio.

Nothing worse NOTHING than a man who pretends to be one thing but isn't. Kurtz should never lecture anyone on ethics in journalism.

He's right. The media's job is to report the news, not manufacture it. This case never should have hit national attention in the first place.

He's right. This was a media circus that put Roman chariot races and lions to shame.
