WASHINGTON, D.C., July 7, 2011 - Today, Rep. Jeff Miller, Chairman of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, introduced complementary legislation to the Veteran Opportunity to Work (VOW) Act of 2011 (H.R. 2433) to help curb rising veteran unemployment. The Tax Credit to Hire Veterans Act of 2011 (H.R. 2443) would provide a tax credit to be applied toward capital equipment purchases to small businesses that hire unemployed veterans.

I actually like the idea of killing the Bush tax "gifts" to the wealthy, and then transferring the resulting increased revenue stream into a corresponding "revenue neutral" benefit/tax credit for anyone who actually hires someone.

It may sound simplistic, but I am tired of hearing that the wealthy are the ones who create jobs in this country; they are not. Most jobs are created by small businesses run by people who are anything but wealthy; so let us give the tax benefit to those who actually can show that they are creating jobs (rich, poor, young, old, I don't care who it is as long as they are creating jobs).

However, I don't know that I agree that there should be an enhanced credit for hiring a vet; I have nothing against vets, but the stress, depression, and grief of being unemployed affects everyone, not just vets.

You may be tired of hearing that the wealthy are the ones who create jobs - then again you're probably tired of hearing the truth, too. What is your definition of "wealthy"? People that make less than $150,000 generally don't own small businesses and if they do, don't hire many people.

As I indicated above, I don't care who creates the jobs; it can be the "wealthy" or the not-so-wealthy. I don't even care what the definition of "wealthy" is in this debate.

My point is that the tax breaks should go to the ones who actually HAVE created jobs; not those who in right-wing ideology are held up as the saviors of the economy, and who are assumed to create jobs if we just give them more tax breaks..

The tax breaks should go to those who can document actual job creation, plain and simple.

And here's a reality check for you: many, many people who own small businesses (and who hire employees) take home less than $150k annually:

There lies the truth. Tired of hearing about it yet?

How about tax breaks connected to hiring everyone at a decent wage. We do well...then you do well. Not just tax breaks. Where are the jobs, job creators?

Our Govn't is ran by greedy wealthy people who love and help one another. Take money from the poor and needy and say your a parasite and give it to rich and say your a GOD.

Tax breaks are needed for all the businesses hiring anyone, not just vets, minorities, disabled, or whatever. Give them tax breaks and maybe the hiring can begin and we can get people off unemployment, back to earning a paycheck and contributing taxes. It's a win-win thing.

Define "decent wage". If you expect Mickey D's or Burger Thing to hire anybody off the street at $12 and hour you're kidding yourself. The hiree has to bring something that's worth what you'd consider a "decent wage" or the employer is going to lose much more than what they'd gain in a tax break.

I know it may be hard for you to grasp (or remember, I'm sure you're too young), but before our business models and tax system became so corrupt, companies could afford to hire people at a living wage (yes, even for those lowly jobs that your are so over-qualified for) and offer benefits like health care. It's the changes in the philosophy and the system that have caused this to happen to our society. Pure capitalism creates a society that has two classes--the haves and the have-nots.

Fine. Repeal all the GOP tax cuts and replace them with tax credit for hiring
unemployed American military veterans. I'd like to hear why this is so unequal.
