UPDATE: There was no major announcement from Tiger Woods on Monday. However, it was announced that Woods' agent, Mark Steingberg, will be joining Excel Sports Management.
Tiger Woods' agent Mark Steinberg says that rumors which surfaced Sunday evening that his high-profile client would make a special announcement on Monday are not true.
"There's an erroneous report that he's making an announcement, but he's not," Steinberg told the Associated Press Monday morning.
NPR did some investigating:
Many media outlets -- except the one on which he's supposed to be appearing -- are saying that golfer Tiger Woods will be making a "special announcement" of some kind on The Golf Channel at 11 a.m. ET.
We called The Golf Channel's headquarters in Orlando and all we could get out of them was "stay tuned to see." No confirmation, even, of whether Woods will be on.
Speculation surrounding the announcement included the theory that Woods is taking the rest of 2011 off or -- a most unlikely possibility -- that he's calling it quits from golf permanently.
