Your Day In Politics

Negotiations between Democrats and Republicans to raise the nation's debt ceiling saw more twists and turns as a firm deadline to raise the deficit limit looms. On the trail, Republican presidential candidate Michele Bachmann, who's generally not afraid to speak her mind, found herself dodging a question from a reporter on a controversial issue.

All of that and more in your day in politics.

Guess Bachmann doesn't have an opinion about the country going down the tubes, huh? She's more concerned about her husband's company getting federal dollars. Great choice.

The Debt Ceiling was raised SEVEN TIMES during the BUSH years, yet NO Republicans, Tea Party or Fox News complained about it!

CBS News September 29, 2008
It'll be the 7th time the debt limit has been raised during this administration.

Political Reality
I live in Michigan. Michigan hired a "Nerd" Republican to govern our state and gave him a majority in the legislature. Result after six months -- They cut education, aid to cities, and other public services. They raised taxes on individual retiree pensions and lowered the business tax. Enough said.

While the people in Washington are discussing the fate of the American people and where to
cut so many of the funds that support our way of life, no one has mentioned cutting the funds
we give to other countries. We give billions to other countries. Charity begins at home !
If we don't have enough to take care of our own needs, why are we giving money to people
outside our country. The State Dept. needs to revise their budget and stop giving our money to other countries. When we get our debts paid and have plenty to support ourselves, then we can give money to other countries. For right now, we need to take care of ourselves first. Elaine Simmons, Dallas, Texas

They should force her to answer questions about her hubbys clinic, and if she refuses just cut her off.

Bachmann never answers a question which is critical of her in a straightforward manner. She always finds a way to blame Obama or just talks in circles.  She filibusters often until the questioner is exhausted. In fact, I often get exhausted trying to listen to her because I have no idea where her long-winded answers are going.  Still she makes more sense than Palin, whom when her statements are transcribed in the paper makes no sense at all. Bachmann can not take responsibility and her answers show that. She still defends her statement that the Founders "worker tirelessly" to eliminate slavery by pointing to John Quincy Adams, who was a child at the time of the revolution.

I'm glad you posted this. Colebert showed a clip of her last night and she equates slavery to just about everything. I forgot about the Quincy kid fighting slavery and then playing marbles with his friends outside. Obamacare? She said it's slavery. Gay marriage? "Personal enslavement." Taxes? Yep, slavery. I have never seen someone so pre-occupied with slavery! Having never been a slave, I can't be sure about this, but I'm betting that having health insurance or paying taxes or being married and gay beats the hell out of someone owning me, raping and / or killing me, and using me like I'm a pack animal, and viewing me as less than a person. But again, I wasn't a slave soo..maybe it was a hoot to be one and I'm totally wrong. Who knows!

Can you imagine saying that having health insurance is like being enslaved?  What craziness and far outside the mainstream!  Luckily, she could never win!

Bachmann, being out of the loop on the hour-by-hour drama, probably was right not to comment. She has been quite outspoken on her position in not raising the debt ceiling, however.

The truth being Bachmann doesn't know her own thoughts until her handlers write them down for her..
