Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton Movie In The Works; Can Any Of These Actresses Do Her Justice? (PHOTOS)

First Posted: 07/12/11 07:31 PM ET Updated: 09/11/11 06:12 AM ET

Though they'd parted ways years before, 2010 was a really big year for Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. First, there was Sam Kashner and Nancy Schoenberger's book, 'Furious Love'--a chronicle of Burton and Taylor's passionate love affair (with each other and the bottle), then the Vanity Fair cover story which seemed to breathe life into the Burton-Taylor saga.

Now, after Taylor's death, come the films. Last month, Paramount Pictures optioned 'Furious Love,' and reportedly, the film will be directed by Martin Scorsese.

Without a doubt, this would be a match made in cinematic heaven. But, this Sunday, The New York Times posed a question: How could anyone ever recreate the intrigue, passion and power of Dick and Liz?

Kim Kardashian gave it a whirl in the March issue of Harper's Bazaar and Angelina Jolie will star in a remake of 'Cleopatra' but who will be able to tackle the love affair of the century?

We leave it up to you--below are some top notch beauties, would any of them be able to fill Taylor's shoes?

None of the above. Sherilyn Fenn once played a pretty good Elizabeth Taylor but I'm not sure who would be able to play her now. I think Gerard Butler would be an excellent choice for Burton, though.

With all due respect to the actresses in the photos shown here, no ... none of them would be believable as 'Liz.' It might be only slightly easier to cast the role of Richard Burton ... but Liz? Keep looking!

Megan Fox would be my choice for the part.

There is no other Elizabeth Taylor, and I hope several of these women, including Angelina do not get the part. As for Kim K............. that is a joke. For anyone growing up during the era of a young Elizabeth the casting people need to look for a very eunique beauty, as well as good actress for this part. I haven't seen anyone comparible.

I was about to say that and you beat me to it but thanks! I was thinking the same thing like being a reality star automatically makes you an actress!

That was my question as well! I would be horrified if she were cast as Liz in anything! OMG!

No one can play Elizabeth Taylor. And, why does anyone have to? I'm perfectly content to watch her old films -- please don't desecrate the memory of this amazing woman.

As far as Burton, fron the first time I watched him in Gladiator, I have to say: Russell Crowe.

But, there is no one who can 'play' Liz.

I thought this was a list of serious contenders: Scarlet J., Kim K., Angelina J. and Megan F. (you need to be smacked for THAT one!) No one can bring the passion to this role but a newcomer. An established actress could not do it justice. Go find your star in a Target or Dairy Queen and leave the starlets at home for a change!

Salma Hayek or Penelope Cruz
