Russell Pearce Recall Election Date Announced By Jan Brewer

Russell Pearce Recall Election

By PAUL DAVENPORT   07/12/11 09:55 PM ET   AP

PHOENIX -- Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer has announced a Nov. 8 recall election for the leader of the state Senate who was the chief sponsor of the state's controversial legislation against illegal immigration.

Brewer's action Tuesday was expected because elections officials certified last week that opponents of Senate President Russell Pearce had collected enough signatures to force the recall election.

Pearce is best known for sponsoring immigration measures, including the 2010 enforcement law known as SB1070. A judge has placed key provisions of that measure on hold while they're challenged in federal court.

But the people calling for the Republican's ouster have focused their criticism on other issues, such as cuts to education and social services.

He says he'll remain in office and campaign for retention by voters in his legislative district.

Pearce, Brewer and their cronies are making this state unlivable and laughable. Arizona has a governor that never graduated high school and is very poorly educated for the job she holds. Their own children have turned out poorly and they do not want anyone else to receive an education. Uneducated people are much easier to lie to and manipulate. They make our problems much worse and do not provide solutions, only more problems. Enough! Take our state back and provide quality education for our youth, all of them. We will be totally dependent on these young people soon.

Pearce is history. Jerry Lewis (don't laugh), a marathon runner has entered the race. My bet is on him!

It seems that nobody wants to run against Pearce

His previous opponents have bowed out and nobody else is stepping up - "I did think about running again and I thought, no, it's political suicide," Andrea Garcia said.

Recall elections are terrible ideas. The craze started with Gray Davis, who was doing a decent job. It's now spread to AZ and WI. The people just can't take responsibility for their votes. This will lead to even worse electoral choices, since people think they can just return the merchandise.

I garuantee you that when we voted this guy in we didnt know he was making a few hundred thousand a year from the private prison lobby, we didn't know he was going to make incarceration for income lesiglation his main drive. Guy went around preaching spending cuts, increased legislation pay.
Cut the funding to schools and does nothing about the infrastructure in our cities. Recall elections are to get rid of politicians who campaigned one direction... and did something else. If its was Obama would you care, or is just cause they are ALL republican, and the people are starting to figure out that the republicans care about one thing... the rich folk who give them money to make sure they stay in power.

I cringe when I hear about private prisons. Nonetheless, the worse he is, the more important it is to live with your choices. Take the time to research people next time. Remember, we couldn't have recalled John Edwards had he been elected President, and the Democrat Party would have protected him once he was in office.

SB 1070 never mentioned race, ethnicity, or national origin, it was a measure to take up the slack when the Feds refuse to do their job... Get over it

The "feds refuse to do their job" because the farm owners, hotel owners, meat packing owners, factory owners, landscape maintenance owners, food service owners and many other powerful rich folks want it that way. The don't want to pay minimum wage - they love cheap labor. Get over it.
10:22 AM on 07/13/2011
Absolutely. But this isnt the only reason for the Feds refusal to enforce its own laws.

Regardless- SB 1070 was actually a mild measure that every state needs.

Easy to stop illegal immigration. Put the people who hire them into jail, it's against the law to hire an illegal. If they can't find work, they will go home. Problem solved. It's our corporations who want to hire them because they can pay them so little. Illegal immigration helps the rich, not the average American. They are here because Americans give them jobs.

I live in Pearce's district in Mesa. Disclosure: never voted for him, never would. Pearce thinks he is the de facto governor of Arizona, that he is above the law, that he can accept illegal freebies at will without having to answer for it, and that he can write unconstitutional law. His pompous actions and behavior have cost Arizonans millions. This community, like Pearce, is largely mormon and he may survive this, but many here also realize that Pearce is over the top and an embarrassment to a rational thinking society. Many have changed their minds about him since the last election. Up until now, unfortunately for voters who think about the issues before voting in the Phoenix area, most people here vote what their church elders or the NRA tell them, and then we all suffer the consequences. We've got a lot of nut-case politicians in this area. Pearce is just the bottom of the barrel. Or near the bottom.

They did, but a member of the legislature (in this case Pearce) has to submit it for a vote before it becomes law.

The Hispanics, legal and otherwise, will dictate US immigration policy. That policy will be a continuation and expansion of the open borders. The boundary that defines the US will effectively disappear as Mexico emerges in the north.

What would our future 7th generation think of us?
09:07 AM on 07/13/2011
Seems that our own history is coming back to haunt us.

In 1846, the Americans of European descent -- especially those who supported Manifest Destiny -- dictated US expansionist policy. That policy was a continuation of the expansion of America's western border. That border, which had defined Mexico, was effectively pushed West and South as America expanded from the East, taking half of Mexico through naked aggression in the form of the Mexican-American War.

Go figure.

Was there a treaty in there? Or was it just "naked aggression"?

All of this is such a wast of time and energy, this guy should never have been elected in the first place. Just like Florida, Wisconsin, Texas and all the other states that now have voters remorse. Arizona and many other stats will have to pay big time for the damage the GOTARDKLANBAGGERS are causing all over the country. If ever a large majority of white voters ever drop the whole supremacy thing perhaps we could rebuild this nation. The old and tired argument that illegal immigrants are ruining America is such BS. The true destroyers of this country are f00lish American voters who keep electing people like the Peirce and our current congress.

I don't know what kind of business you have but I can assure you it's not illegal immigrants who ruined our economy. Every election cycle people get all twisted out of shape kicking around the same old tired ball's. Abortion, gay rights, illegal immigration, entitlement programs and all the other smoke screens the government likes to throw out there for us to squabble about. While at the same time giving massive tax cuts to multinational corporations, wall street and the rich. We really need to stop falling for it.

Voter remorse can be fixed, bankrupting a state is not the fiscal conservatives have shown their true ability to govern, just look at the economic situation of the nation and how they deal with it, they panic and hand it off to the other party to fix, like the debt ceiling Republicans are running away!

One thing about the GOPTBAGGERS is they know they can't govern and big money told them the gig is up. So just like good servants the are following their new marching orders. Now they are going to put the full press on the presidential election and fund raising. I sure hope people wake up and vote all these CONS out of office.
