Three Reasons Why The Recovery Is A Long Way Off

Economic Recovery

The Fiscal Times:

Fiscal stimulus doesn't last forever. At some point, the economic boost from temporary increases in government spending and one-off tax cuts goes away, placing a greater burden on the private-sector to generate growth and create jobs. This time, with the economy still wobbly, the impact could be jarring. The loss of stimulus starting next year will depress economic growth and complicate the Federal Reserve's efforts to shift monetary policy to back to normal.

Reason #1: Obama/Democrats/Progressives misguided and seriously flawed agenda & policies.

Reason #2: *see reason #1

Reason #3: *see reasons #1 and #2

We have too many people chasing too few jobs.

How about reducing legal immigration (H1B visas) when the unemployment rate is over 5 %.

American has the highest rate of legal immigration of any nation. We allow a million people every year to immigrate legally. What would our unemployment rate be if we had reduced our legal immigration the last 4 years. That might be 3 or 4 million less people looking for jobs.
There are a billion people in the world living on less than one dollar a day. We can not provide a job for every unemployed person that wants to come to the US.

It is the plan of the GOP to force the nation into a depression, they hope that the democrats will be blamed and they will finally get to kill the "NEW DEAL". They have been trying since the 1950's to get rid of it. They want all middle and lower class to become serf's for their wealthy patrons.

The Democrats ran the Senate, House, and White House for 2 years and all we get out of it is more blame Bush ane the Republicans.

In 2008 the Democrats had a clear mandate from the voters. They could have done whatever they aspired to.
They didn't. They claimed the Republicans kept blocking them in the Senate with that super majority nonsense.
I sure they were relieved when the house went Republican in 2010. They no longer had to play that silly game.
There isn't much difference between the 2 parties. They both work for their corporate overlords and the uber rich. It's all about the campaign cash.

Reason #4: Because people are as willfully ignorant of the recession's cause as they were 300 years ago about the cause of disease.

Denial will reign supreme until someone can explain to thumb sucking five year olds how macro economics and micro economics are as different as amoebas and giraffes. We stand a great chance of being hit by a rogue asteroid before that happens, and then it'll be class dismissed!

High unemployment means lots of income removed from the economy. Extended UI programs put some stimulus money back into the domestic economy, but now these have been cut back. Local communities are loosing the added sales tax, local business is not seeing an increase in customers, so hiring is frozen. Folks calling for a tightening of our belts...you are slowing a recovery.

Obama, stop agreeing to these spending cuts. Make your case that these are the things that are costing jobs. Call out the GOP bluff.

"'The question that has not been asked is whether the fiscal drag should be so frontloaded as to jeopardize the economy’s recovery in an election year,' says Hale. 'Such a risk now clearly exists in 2012.'" Exactly what I keep saying, and yet so many politicians are completely ignoring the problem. Very, very scary.

Let me add at least one more:

A divided country cannot move forward -- the left going more left and the right going more right.

And we all in a standstill.

The Leftwing IS NOT going more leftist. The Rightwing IS going more conservative. The Rightwing controls the Supreme Court and the House of Representatives. The Senate is split. The Rightwing uses distortions and fear to herd its sheep to vote against their own interests. The Republican Party will not only withhold political re-election funds from any member who doesn't 'tow the Party Line' in its entirety but, The Republican Party will also fund the campaigns of opposition to any member who thinks for his/herself. The Democratic Party doesn't EXTORT votes!

rocklandmike,

I see your point, if you are speaking of politicians only.

I was referring to all people both on the right and the left. People are taking sides and digging trenches. You can see that on the pools, town hall meetings, talk radio, etc...

I once could have a civilized and constructive conversation with people of opposite political views. That no longer is the case in my life.

How about yours? Others?

Do you know what their interest is? Did you ask them? How do you know? Is it just your opinon? Extort votes? Extortion is a criminal offense. What criminal offense, and please cite statute, is it they are guilty of?

The working middle class 1) hasn't suffered enough? 2) Are lazy anyway 3) haven't been taxed enough? 5) Entitlements keep them glued to their TV sets? The banksters and fraudsters are investing abroad?
