Levi Aron Arrested In Killing Of 8 Year-Old Leiby Kletzky

Levi Aron

Levi Aron was arrested earlier today in the kidnapping and murder of 8 year-old Leiby Kletzky, The New York Post reports, after authorities raided his Kensington, Brooklyn home and discovered what they believe to be Kletzky's severed feet in the refrigerator.

When police entered Aron's home he was shirtless, according to The New York Daily News, and when questioned about the boy, he nodded towards the kitchen. Officers said they also found a cutting board next to three bloody butcher knives.

Aron, who turned 35 years-old today, then led police to a dumpster two miles away in Greenwood Heights, where the rest of Kletzky's body was found.

Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly announced the arrest at a press conference this morning, according to the Associated Press. Kelly said investigators tracked Aron down after surveillance video footage showed the lost boy approach him on Monday.

Cops said Aron, who is a clerk at the Empire State Supply Co. hardware store on McDonald Avenue in Kensington, allegedly suffocated the boy before cutting him into pieces, the Post reports. Kelly said Aron "panicked" when he saw the massive search led by the Brooklyn Hasidic Jewish community and the NYPD to find Kletzy and "that's why he killed the boy."

Levi Aron is Jewish but authorities aren't sure if he's Hasidic, according to the AP.

Aron's Facebook page shows he 'Likes' the group "IS YOUR FAMILY SAFE? Find out who really lives in your area".

"He has no excuse," a source said of a possible motive to the News. "He doesn't know why he did it."

Aron's only previous run-in with the law was a ticket for public urination.

I have a 9 year old son and I could not even begin to imagine what his family is going through right now. All that I know is that I held my children a little tighter since this news broke. I have been praying for this family. I don't think that anything will heal this for them but with the man above I hope that they have peace.

I find it hard to believe that this guy has not done this type of thing before or no one suspected that he had these types of urges. I wonder how much of what he may have done in he past was covered up or ignored?

How can the parents sleep? The pain of it. The feet in the fridge? The rest of the body a mile away? Their baby boy dismembered? Omigod.

I was thinking the same thing. This is so awful.

Shades of Jeffery Dalmer. At least he took older guys, but that was probably just as bad.

You can not tell the good from the bad strangers. Just because they are nice looking doesn't mean anything.

We would all run from the devil if he was really a red monster, but he isn't. He is sometimes handsome or beautiful and temps us with riches, fun and fame.

The reason the pedophile notices don't work is because we don't know if the nice guy next door is one and never been caught. We think you know where it is safe but we don't.

Several years ago I heard someone make a comment that has really stuck with me. Sadly, I can't recall who made the comment or under what circumstances. What has lingered is this phrase:
"The thin veneer of civilization."
How true is this? How much of our civilization is just a thin coating applied to the horrors that lay a micron below the surface? We pride ourselves on how far we've come from our simian ancestry, yet it takes only a single event to expose the reality of who we really are.
My point is this: we need to be careful how we react to this guy (and all others like him). If we turn into a mob then the veneer is gone and the truth of our society will be exposed (again) for all to see.
Punish him, yes. But not as a mob - not as an angry collective which sees it's own reflection in the mud, but as an ordered society taking out the trash.

VERY well put..... we collectively claim to be 'advanced' but like you said, a micron under the surface lay the horrors

yes. I agree. People who rely on technology and "virtual friends" and "virtual lives" have little socialization training. From what I'm seeing here in this country, that includes most. So few seem to have social outings like hikes, sports outings, etc... I work at a large company and encounter a lot of regular folks and most of them seem to live in a small world preferably so. One invites another over for a backyard bbq or whatever and suddenly the energy changes to something unsettling. I've been intentionally aware of the behaviors of groups being a manager of a large organization. This is what our country is becoming. People are driven by fear and distrust. People prefer their TVs and PCs as their main companion. Many have no idea how to relate to people. I think your remark was spot on. I know people who play Farmville because that is the safest way to live where they won't get hurt and there are no demands to stay longer or put out an iota more effort than you want. Sad inept culture we are here in the US.

u have 58 fans so does it mean u have little socialization training? yes i used to play farmville and i have had plenty of virtual friends. i met some in person, some i wish i had NEVER met and most i know from in person interactions. i do agree that ppl need to socialize more and t.v. does not constitut socializing.

I think they were trying to point out... he looked, acted... and was just an ordinary "appearing" person until ---- something snapped. They wanted to show he was... just the guy next door.

What can be said that hasn't already been said. We are living in a generation of total and complete lack of respect for human life. Just about daily we hear or read of people brutally killing people and frequently for the most idiotic reasons imaginable. May God have mercy on us as we deny the existence of God and turn to the most horrendous evil one could possibly imagine.
Seems to me that the Devil Himself has taken over our world. God Help Us!!!!!

This story of this poor child is one of the more ghastly things i have read. It was sickening. I personally feel there is no worse crime than one visited on a child. I personally feel a person that visits harm on a child should not be executed but locked away in a dark hole for the rest of their life. That being said lets speak of your post.
Ever read a great many parts of the holy bible? I am guessing not.Try this one. "Happy shall he be, that taketh and dasheth thy little ones against the stones. -- Psalm 137:9 It speaks of the terror visited on Babylon. To slay all when a city was sacked, both male and female, old and young, was a common practice in ancient times - and it was usually done in horrid ways. There is a story of Elisha, beloved by God. in 2 Kings; ----2:23 There came forth little children out of the city, and mocked him, and said unto him, Go up, thou bald head; go up, thou bald head.
---2:24 And he turned back, and looked on them, and cursed them in the name of the LORD. And there came forth two she bears out of the wood, and tare forty and two children of them.-----------If these things... many many stories some worse. Some done by and ordered by Moses. Terrible crimes against men women and children. Today is worse? Please step back and think about it.

Hold on - but he plead 'Not Guilty', so he must have a good reason to have had Kletzky's feet in his fridge.
