'Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows' Trailer: Robert Downey, Jr. In Drag For Sequel (VIDEO)

First Posted: 07/13/11 12:03 PM ET Updated: 09/12/11 06:12 AM ET

After Guy Ritchie's first semi-anachronistic take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's "Sherlock Holmes" series took in over $500 million at the box office back in 2009, it didn't take a master detective to figure out that there would be a sequel. Of course, that's exactly what the world is getting.

Robert Downey, Jr. is back with another turn in his charming take on the super sleuth, donning a British accent and employing his trademark wry wit to give life to a Holmes more like his Tony Stark Iron Man character than 19th century wise man. Back as well is Jude Law's bemused version of sidekick Watson.

The villain this time is two-fold: first, "Mad Men" star Jared Harris, as wildly evil Professor Moriarty; and second, whichever makeup designer who decided to give Downey blue eyeshadow for his head-turning scenes in drag. A pretty woman, he does not make.

For old time's sake -- and more information -- check out the feature Entertainment Tonight did on the film back in January.

On a side note, the heavy stylization of the film makes it especially interesting to compare Ritchie's take on Doyle's legendary stories with the BBC's contemporary remake of the same saga, "Sherlock."

"Sherlock Homes: Game of Shadows" hits theaters in December.

Maybe you should reread the books. Holmes fenced, boxed, and defeated Moriarty at Reichenbach using baritsu. Those things may not have shown up as much center stage in the stories, but they were there.

Its amazing how many people sneer at Downey's interpretation at Holmes who obviously haven't read or understood the books. I think most of them just saw the Basil Rathbone movies and assumed that was the real Holmes. Downey and these movies certainly take some liberties but in spirit I think he's very authentic to the Holmes in the book: bohemian, manic-depressive, at times rude, and able to be very physical when needed.

I still haven't seen anybody uglier than "Wesley Snipes" as Noxema Jackson in Too Wong Foo; Thanks for Everything Julie Newmar. Wesley even stated himself he made an "UGLY WOMAN"!

As long as he stays clean from dope, I don't care if he dress's like the pope in drag.

So today, I learnt that both of my men--RDJ and Johnny Depp--do not look so hot in drag. (Of course, I already knew that RDJ didn't look good in drag since I saw why on the ET special back in January!) Johnny Im surprised about 'cause he looks a lot more girlish than RDJ does.
Proof is here:

I think he's adorable! LOL But then, I love him no matter what he's wearing, or not wearing for that matter. =)

RDJ is handsome as a man, comical-looking as a woman, but W. Snipes is the UGLIEST man in drag in the movie "To Wong Foo...". Leguizamo is 2nd runner-up.

I absolutely agree!

Well, Willem Dafoe did really ugly drag in "The Boondack Saints". I'd say worst than Snipes. (Dafoe is one of my favourites, btw)

Think un-sexy thoughts indeed.
