Getting a divorce is easier than getting a driving licence, a senior judge said today as he warned about the 'huge' problem of family breakdown.

Sir Paul Coleridge, a Family Division judge, suggested people needed to 're-educate' themselves about the value of stable relationships for the good of the whole of society.

About 3.8 million children are estimated to be caught up in the family justice system, with no sign of that number coming down, he said.

Whilst divorce may be easier than ever, the divorce rate amongst 30 amd 40 somethings is actually decreasing. Given the inexorable rise of affairs dating websites specifically for married people like Undercoverlovers.com and Ashley Madison might this suggest that more and more UK spouses are adopting a more pragmatic Continental approach to the institution, rather than expecting one person to tick all of the boxes?

I always have said and always will say they need to make getting married at least as hard as getting a drivers license. Until they do that then getting divorced should be as easy as getting married.
