The girlfriend of a man suspected in March's Dodger Stadium attack was arrested in Las Vegas on an unrelated charge, reports the Los Angeles Times. Now Los Angeles detectives are on their way to Las Vegas to question her.
Officer Marcus Martin of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department spoke with the HuffPost about the circumstances of her arrest on July 9. "It was just really a happenstance encounter," says Officer Martin. A security guard at local hotel Arizona Charlie's was investigating a reported disturbance in a room. "That's when he noticed the strong odor of narcotics" and decided to call the police, adds Officer Martin.
Las Vegas police arrested Denise Piccione and charged her with trafficking methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, and possession of a dangerous weapon. She has entered a not guilty plea and is held on $1,000 bail at a local detention center.
Piccione has been questioned by the police about her relationship with suspect Giovanni Ramirez and was named a "person of interest" in the Dodger Stadium beating case, reports KTLA. Ramirez claims that he spent the day of March 31 with his daughter and other family and friends at home, and not at Dodger Stadium, where Bryan Stow was attacked. Giovanni also claims that later on that evening, he spent the night with Piccione at a Comfort Inn motel.
Ramirez is currently serving 10 months in state prison for an unrelated parole violation. The Los Angeles Police Department have not yet filed a case against him with the Los Angeles District Attorney for the Dodger Stadium attack.
After the March attack, victim Bryan Stow was transferred from Los Angeles to a hospital in San Francisco. According to a website maintained by Stow's family, his condition was upgraded from "critical" to "serious" on June 22.
