Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Pena Witness Gang Violence While Researching 'End Of Watch ' Film Role

LOS ANGELES — Jake Gyllenhaal and Michael Pena got a front row seat to Los Angeles gang violence.

The actors, who were on riding along with police on patrol in South Los Angeles, were on the scene of a gang shooting late Wednesday. The actors are researching police work for their roles in the upcoming movie "End of Watch."

Sgt. Angela McGee says a gang member shot a rival, who is hospitalized with a grazing bullet wounds above his lip and on an arm. Two suspects walked away and there are no arrests.

McGee says the actors were on patrol with 77th Street Station officers. KTTV Fox 11 video shows the actors talking while officers investigate nearby.

"End of Watch" is a drama that focuses on the partnership of two police officers.

I've been on ride alongs with the LAPD a few times. Each time, I ALWAYS felt vulnerable. Very scary.

A ride-along usually changes peoples' perspectives. I bet Gyllenhaal and Pena will no longer toe the Hollywood line that these gang thugs are all victims of poor circumstances and can be rehabilitated.

Um cops usually dont behave badly when they have a ride along. I'm not anti-police. But you have to know that they would not have allowed you to go an a ride along with the guy that has multiple excessive force against him. They send you with the nice cop.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. In certain areas cops have absolute power and the people have no recourse. 7/10 cops may be decent upstanding people but it's the 3/10 that will cause someone, somewhere, to always say "f" the police.

Ex: I once got t-boned at an intersection, I was not injured but 1) I have asthma and 2) the air bags when off. 3) I could not breath. The cop showed up (while i was gasping for air) and threatened to cite me for not being able to provide my registeration (which I was unable to provide 1) because i was gasping for air, 2) in shock I was Just fn t-boned by a 70 yr old, and 3) it was in my now totalled car and could not get it out without assitance from "the jaw of life")
