Casey Anthony's mother, Cindy Anthony, called 911 on July 15, 2008, after being told by her daughter that Caylee had been missing for 31 days. "There's something wrong. I found my daughter's car today, and it smells like there has been a dead body in the car," Cindy Anthony told the dispatcher. Cindy Anthony, a nurse, testified that she is familiar with the smell of human decomposition and said that the odor in the car "was like something I had never -- it was pretty strong," she said.

Simon Birch, the former manager of Johnson's Wrecker -- the Orlando towing company that impounded Anthony's Pontiac Sunfire on June 30, 2008 roughly two weeks after Caylee Anthony died -- delivered explosive testimony when he described inspecting the vehicle. "It was an odor consistent to what I have smelled in the past when it comes to decomposition," said Birch, who noticed the odor while examining Anthony's car four or five days after it was impounded in the secure lot.

Huntington, a assistant professor of biology from Concordia University, testified the lack of bug evidence -- he only found one blow fly leg when he examined Anthony's car in 2010 -- suggested a body did not decompose inside the trunk. The defense entomologist also pointed to research he conducted in September 2010, in which he put dead pigs into the trunks of cars to observe the decomposition process. During that study, Huntington said blow flies were drawn to the pig soon after death. He also noted there was a large amount of fluid left inside the vehicles by the decomposing pigs. "It is a sticky, greasy, disgusting material," Huntington said. "Once it soaks in there, I'm not sure a professional cleaner could get it out." Such a stain was not found in Anthony's vehicle.

George Anthony testified that he discovered someone had broken into his shed and stolen two of his gas cans on June 24, 2008. He suspected his daughter was responsible and confronted her about the missing cans. He testified he walked to the back of his daughter's car to open the trunk when she rushed ahead of him. "As I get toward the end of the car, right toward the passenger rear, just where the tail lights stuff is at, Casey opens up the trunk, throws the trunk open, reaches in and grabs the gas cans and says, 'Here's your f---ing gas cans.' She places them down on the ground and slams her trunk," Anthony said on the stand. Afterwards, Anthony "abruptly got into her car and drove away," her father testified.

"Casey's purse was on the front seat and Caylee's baby doll, her favorite doll, was in the car seat like it was sitting where Caylee would have sat," Cindy Anthony said, describing the interior of her daughter's Pontiac Sunfire. "Caylee's doll smelled like the car so I took it out," Anthony continued. "I sat the doll down and I went and got a Clorox wipe and I wiped the face and hands. The body was soft and so it smelled pretty bad ... I sprayed Febreze all through the car thinking that might help the odor ... I used pretty much a whole can of Febreze."
