First Posted: 07/18/11 09:14 AM ET Updated: 09/17/11 06:12 AM ET

Here's another hole in one made over the weekend that didn't happen in the British Open. Joe Sakic, former Colorado Avalanche star, made an ace on the 17th hole at the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship which happened to win him $1 million from the tournament sponsor.

"That's a shot you never imagine hitting," Sakic said, per USA Today. "I've never even been close before. If you're going to do it, why not here?"

According to reports, half of the money is going to Sakic and the other to Lance Armstrong's Livestrong Foundation.

Joe really is a classy guy. I was able to watch him play some great playoff games, especially the year Ray Bourque won the Cup. While we were all rooting for Ray here, Joe gained a lot of respect from Boston hockey fans. Congrats Joe! = )
I miss hockey!!!!!!!!!!

This is the guy who was handed his 2nd Stanley Cup and passed it immediately to Ray Bourque who went his 15+ year career without one. He is a class act through and through.

psssh. kim jong-il sank a dozen hole-in-one's...consecutively...the first time he ever played golf.

Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Met him several times at my previous job during the time the Avs were competeing for the cup each year. Super freindly "regular" guy, good for you Mr. Sakic!

I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Before he donates half-a-mil to Lance Armstrong's foundation, maybe he should do a little research and find out how HUGE of a salary Mr. Lance draws from that foundation......just for being Lance. It's obscene.

I have actually made a number of hole in one shots-

and each one of them have given me great personal satisfaction.

All of course at the local-

putt-putt course we go to.

I almost made a hole in one. It was a par 90 and my Tee shot was only 80 yards away from the flag.
