Comedian Kathy Griffin On Plastic Surgery: 'I Want To Be Pretty And Funny'

When Kathy Griffin joined her friend and fellow comedian Paul Provenza at a taping of his new show "The Green Room with Paul Provenza" everything was fun and games until the topic of plastic surgery came up.

“Joan Rivers looks like a very young alien that had her work done in Roswell, “ Provenza said to his roundtable of guests, that this week includes Griffin, Dana Gould and Greg Proops.

But even with Provenza on the attack when in came to who was nipped and tucked, Griffin was ready to play ball.

“I’ll take all your questions. I’ve had everything done except the tits,” Kathy chimed in, allowing Paul to feel them to make sure she was telling the truth. “That’s the tragedy about female comedians. We still want to be pretty and girls.”

Provenza then pushed the redhead firecracker to explain why she couldn't feel pretty a la naturale.

“There’s just a lot of stuff -- stars without makeup, she’s looking haggard -- and it does get to me,” Kathy confesses. “So I went to the dentist, that’s my code, and I got a root canal and filling.”

Even though female comedians often place themselves at the butt of the joke, according to Griffin, that doesn't mean they don't still want to be "pretty" while being crude or un-ladylike.

“I think most female comedians do it because at the core we still want to be funny and pretty. I do it because I want to be pretty and funny.”

More than a few procedures later, I hope it's "mission accomplished" for Griffin.

"The Green Room" with Paul Provenza airs this Thursday on SHOWTIME. No rules, no agenda, no censors (I think that was a joint they were smoking!).
