Reggie Bush's Family Takes Back 2005 Heisman Trophy

Reggie Bush Heisman Trophy

07/19/11 12:23 AM ET   AP

SAN DIEGO -- Reggie Bush's family has taken back a copy of his 2005 Heisman Trophy from a San Diego sports museum.

The San Diego Hall of Champions said it returned the trophy to the family on Friday and declined further comment.

The museum received the trophy from the family in March but never displayed it.

Bush relinquished his title as Heisman winner last year after an NCAA probe concluded that he and his family accepted improper benefits from would-be sports agents while Bush was still playing for USC.

The Heisman Trust, which was considering stripping Bush of the award, decided to vacate the title for that season.

The news was first reported Monday by the San Diego Union-Tribune.

I really don't understand why Reggise ever gave up his Heisman. He didn't buy it, his talent on the field earned it for him.

Today coaches at top schools make what 1mil to 2 schools make a fortune from TV etc.. 18 year old kids are chased all over to sign up. The NCAA should not vacate awards or kick kids off teams. Just take the bread away from the Schools TV Money etc. See how long all their "keep honest " programs last if USC or LSU MICH etc.etc.etc had to give up the money. What a joke.

Who needs a trophy to know there was nobody better on the FB field than you that year because too many people witnessed it to say otherwise. The footage of game play and memory of fans in the stands cant be taken away so what's the use.

Two Words: Vince Young. Two More: Rose Bowl. Reggie was great in that game, but Vince was better. however, I do credit your larger point. There is the kind of cheating that affects the game (steroids, point shaving) and then cheating that is still wrong, but did it make you a better a player? Was Reggie a better player because he didn't have to worry about money? And Young did? Can't say now.

Vince Young only put his mark on that in the last play and had a very good year but Reggie had the most awesome year in college football then which was a continuation from the previous year.

I wouldn't give the Heisman back either. He earned on the field. Tell USC and Pete Carroll to give back all the money they made off Reggie.

He never got money from USC, they had a 4 year investigation into that specific issue and it never happened, Reggie's parents and Reggie himself received money from an aspiring agent , please site facts and not what you would lie to believe.

Exactly. This isn't steroids and it doesn't affect your play on the field. Taking the trophy back was just an exercise in futility. Everyone will remember who was the best on the field in 2005. #7

What a greedy family. It's funny because I didn't see his family running all over CFB defenses. Not only did the kid get you a house, but a shiny paper weight for the office too!

How well do you know his family to criticize them? You and I both know that the Heisman Trophy is more than a paper weight.

I know them well enough to know that they would accept a house purchased by USC instead of caring whether Reggie would even graduate college. A Heisman trophy only solidifies a higher draft status. After you're drafted, who cares? Besides, most Heisman Trophy winners are busts anyways. (See the RB mentioned above)
