Chipotle Mulls Breakfast, Healthy Items

First Posted: 07/21/11 12:56 PM ET Updated: 09/20/11 06:12 AM ET

Chipotle currently only offers breakfast in one of its outlets, in the Dulles International Airport. Customers have said fantastic things about the offerings; one enthusiastic blogger called the Dulles Chipotle's breakfast burrito "one of the best Chipotle burritos [he's] ever had." Lucky for him, Chipotle is now considering expanding its breakfast offerings across the country, according to Nation's Restaurant News.

The same article also reports that Chipotle is rolling out its healthy food options, including brown rice, currently available in only a selection of its stores. It also reveals, in addition to several other neat tidbits about the Chipotle back-end, the price of America's Next Great Restaurant-winner Soul Daddy's failure: $2.4 million. (Chipotle CEO Steve Ells was a judge on ANGR.)

Is Chipotle poised to go from massive cult favorite to international conglomerate? Between these moves and its other recent announcements (Nate Appleman's chorizo, ShopHouse, local produce), it certainly looks possible.

Better places: Moe's, California Tortilla, and pretty much any independent place.

Chipotle is a little overrated in my opinion. Qdoba has them beat hands down!

Chipotle is healthy food, but they need more variety. After a while their menu gets boring.

Chipotle ain't bad, but Qdoba absolutely BLEW them out of the water as far as their food was concerned...REALLY miss Qdoba!!! they had a good thing going, but I won't settle for Chipotle unless i'm absolutely desperate...only my opinion!

Everytime I go there, the food is lukewarm at best. And they put way too much rice in the burritos as a filler. I wish we had Baja Fresh here in Ohio. They make great Burritos.

I love chipolte, when I order online it is always accurate and I never ever have to complain and the chipolte in Dayton, Ohio that I go too is always clean. I also can't wait wait till they start offering brown rice

Here' a money saver for Chipotle. Just have the employees bring the fresh ingredients with them as they cross the border.

The few times I have been in Chipotle, the food was worse than bad. It was terrible. Then I found out that the owner was hiring illegals in his restaurants. Bad food and hiring illegal aliens, when we have so many unemployed Americans, that's a little to much ,for me. Especially the illegal alien part of it. I will never go into a Chipotle, again. I don't care if they go bankrupt.

Food Safety is not a concern at Chipolte. I have seen servers pick their noses, back of the house employees using their bare hands for putting food on plates and observed food handlers not washing their hands after using the restroom.
They are not alone as other chains are just a guilty but with all the bugs out there these profit oriented QSR's and hospiality restaurants need to get their act together.
Stay home and enjoy a safe meal.
