NEW YORK -- Cynthia Nixon will be returning to Broadway in the Pulitzer Prize-winning play "Wit."

Producers said Wednesday that the Tony and Emmy award winner will star in Margaret Edson's play about a poetry professor who undergoes experimental treatment for cancer.

Nixon will be following her "Sex and the City" co-star Kim Cattrall, who will be in a revival of Noel Coward's "Private Lives" on Broadway in November.

"Wit" will begin previews Jan. 5 and open Jan. 26 at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre on 47th Street. It will be directed by Lynne Meadow, the club's artistic director.

Nixon won a Tony in 2006 in David Lindsay-Abaire's "Rabbit Hole." She is currently appearing in Showtime's series "The Big C" opposite Laura Linney, who plays a character battling cancer.

Wow! I saw the Emma Thompson film version directed by Mike Nichols. It was brilliant, as is the usually brilliant Emma Thompson. It was also emotionally draining.
