DailyFinance:

Sometimes, catastrophes can lead to changes that better protect us -- and by "us," I mean the residents of Main Street -- average Americans whose voices often get lost among the lobbyists and corporate interests.

It will be interesting to watch the downfall of Gen Petraeus as the GOP brands their former patron saint of the military a lover of socialism.

Let's see how the Rs who worship the ground General Petraeus walks on will twist themselves in knots trying to defund and kill the CFPB. It will be a hoot to watch them try to attack Mrs. Petraeus in committee hearings the same way they did with Ms. Warren.

I would rather take on a nest of Al Qaeda veterans than the Consumer Services Department of any financial services company. We have yet to find a way to destroy these monsters. Good luck to the brave Mrs. Petraeus. She'll have to be tougher than her husband.

Wouldn't Dr. Warren and Mrs. Petraeus have made a dream team for the CPB.... yeah... in my dreams......sigh

I used to work at a stereo/furniture store that sold exclusively to the military when I was young. I saw right away how they were screwing youngsters with high fees and poor products, getting them to sign forms that have the paymaster automatically send out payments. I'd work hard to get them the best deal and I was eventually fired for it, because I'd steer them away from the high ticket items. It's good that someone like Holly will be watching out for them.

Our fighting men and women deserve to have strong advocates in their corner, especially for these kind of financial concerns. Great to have Mrs. Patraeus working for the families that deserve it the most. Great to know that there are many of us out there who believe in doing the same whenever we can. Thanks.

We don't need "protecting", stop trying to "protect us" the only thing you & your husband are trying to "protect" is the military industrial complex.

You should be ashamed!

Are you really an "us"?

There are many unscrupulous merchants that do everything that they can to take advantage of young servicemembers that are just starting out, or are not quite financially stable. I remember seeing a receipt where one of my young Soldiers was being charged 209% interest on a signature loan. He needed the money and they knew that he needed the money. Don't let me get started on the pay day loan scammers. Most military bases fight back by putting some of these places off limits, when possible. So yes, if there is an organization to help "us", I welcome it. BTW, I am now a retired "us".

Good for her. I was a Navy wife for 20 yrs. and did some volunteering at Navy Relief which helped young Navy families with either loans or I should say grants but they had to attend financial counseling to give them the tools to work within their means. Many sailors leave on cruise and they don't give a large enough alotment for their family to live on. So many times the younger sailor who isn't making all that much money have the young children who always need things and the wife can't get a job since they move around a lot. Some duty stations are located in areas that have a high cost which are especially tough for not only the enlisted but officers as well and to have those who would screw over the military is simply unacceptable. I'm happy to hear that Mrs. Petraeus is there to lend her expertise, God knows she has seen a lot of bad stuff happening to our military families up close and personal, good luck.

We all do. But Holly is heading the department exclusively concerned with military affairs. When this agency was voted into being, Holly came and told Elizabeth about all of the problems facing the military and because of that, Elizabeth created a department just for that and hired Holly to head it because she's so passionate about it. She'll do a good job if the Republicans are thwarted from destroying the whole agency.

Oh cool! If my very qualified friend calls and asks Mrs. Warren about her concerns, will Mrs. Warren hire HER, too? Or is Mrs. Petraeus actually not at all a Washington insider that already had easy access, lots of money and networks that make for great connections in your political future? Not that Mrs. Warren is necessarily that kind of person, but once again, Obama and his associates purport to be "merit-based" yet continually reach a very short distance for their preferred candidates. There are people who are very qualified all over the country, but it Sux to be you!
