Anders Behring Breivik Identified As Suspect In Norway Shooting

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 07/22/11 09:35 PM ET Updated: 09/21/11 06:12 AM ET

Anders Behring Breivik

The 32-year-old Norwegian man who allegedly went on a shooting spree on the island of Utoya has been identified as Anders Behring Breivik, according to multiple reports.

The Daily Mail and Sky News were among those to report the suspect's name. According to witnesses, the gunman was dressed as a police officer and gunned down young people as they ran for their lives at a youth camp.

Police said Friday evening that they've linked the youth camp shooting and Oslo bombing. Breivik is believed to have acted alone.

Norwegian TV2 reports that Breivik belongs to "right-wing circles" in Oslo. Swedish news site Expressen adds that he has been known to write to right-wing forums in Norway, is a self-described nationalist and has also written a number of posts critical of Islam.

A Twitter account for Breivik has surfaced, though it only has one post, this quote from philosopher John Stuart Mill: "One person with a belief is equal to the force of 100 000 who have only interests." The tweet was posted on July 17.

On a Facebook account that Norwegian media outlets have attributed to Breivik, he describes himself as having Christian, conservative views. He says he enjoys hunting, the games World of Warcraft and Modern Warfare 2, and lives in Oslo. He also lists political analysis and stock analysis as interests.

If the person who killed 90+ people in Norway was a Muslim, the Press would have declared him as terrorist. For now though, he is just an 'Assailant ', 'Attacker' (Reuters), 'Gunman' (BBC, CNN & Al Jazeera). Looks like 'Terrorist ' is a name reserved for Muslims? The US Dept of State calls it an 'Act of Violence', Not an 'Act of Terrorism' .

References of Anders claiming to be a Christian Conservative in his Facebook profile have been proven to be BOGUS. His Facebook Profile was altered (references to him being a Christian Conservative were added) some time after the shooting, and while he was in Police custody. Because changes were made when Anders could not have done it himself, Facebook removed the profile. The reason given for Facebook removing it was "NRS" (Not Reliable Source).

Surprise? Really? The GOP/Tea have been traitors to the Republic since Reagan. They want to starve and drown the republic. This latest GOP created crisis has damaged the full faith and credit of the USA, and is threatening to destroy it.

Why do you folks vote for traitors? They ain't Ike.

Vote for the Progressive caucus in the primaries and the dems in the general. The real founders types.

We spend trillions of dollars on mideast wars that are supposed to keep us safe from extremist Muslim "terrorists," and all we've managed to do is bankrupt the country and make a lot of rich folks a whole lot richer. Meanwhile, we've spent nothing at all to protect ourselves from real terrorists like Breivik and Loughner. "But what about 9/11?" you ask. Well, if you're credulous enough to believe that 9/11 was actually masterminded by Muslim terrorists, Karl Rove and Company must really love you. As P. T. Barnum said, "There's a sucker born every minute!" I truly wonder if there's any chance that 300 million Americans could ever wake up and realize they're being thrown under the bus by a mere handful of Very Bad People.

The gunman idolized and wished to start a Norwegian branch of the EDL (English Defence League), a British group whose leader has described ALL religion including Christianity as failed nonsense.

This is an extract from their Mission Statement;
"EDL promotes the understanding of Islam and the implications for non-Muslims forced to live alongside it. Islam is not just a religious system, but a political and social ideology that seeks to dominate all non-believers and impose a harsh legal system that rejects democratic accountability and human rights. It runs counter to all that we hold dear within our British liberal democracy, and it must be prepared to change, to conform to secular, liberal ideals and laws, and to contribute to social harmony, rather than causing divisions."

Not Christian at all but wanting to "conform to secular, liberal ideals and laws". Sounds like LIBERALS.

Of course they do, now they are blaming FOX TV, conservative Americans, and George Bush. What they don't realize, is when a finger is pointed, there is usually three coming back.
It's a tragedy for one child to die before potential is met, much less that many.
Although, I really don't understand how Politics in the U.S.A. are to be blamed on a horrible
incident in western Europe.

"Although, I really don't understand how Politics in the U.S.A. are to be blamed on a horrible incident in western Europe."

To what extent, if any, the warped political commentary coming from the US influenced this man remains to be seen.

People worldwide read American media over the Web. We can stream American news TV through our computers. We know what people are saying. The BBC and Sky carry the American network news. On Sunday mornings, the BBC News Channel present American media, and American call-ins.

In the end, no one but the terrorist is responsible for his actions. However, it would be interesting to know the sources of his motivation.

This seems a bit fishy... evidently someone changed the Norwegian's Facebook page while he was locked up...adding "Christian" and "Conservative" to his profile. Then there's the jihad group that took credit for the bombing...What is going on here? http://atlasshrugs2000.typepad.com/atlas_shrugs/2011/07/who-added-christian-and-conservative-to-norway-shooters-facebook-page-yesterday.html

Fox News and the ilk who work there like Oreilly, Hannity, Beck..etc. And their Guests like Ann Coulter and Sarah Reload Palin have taught me something. There is a very Ugly side to RW Christians. A Very Ugly side. Recently a group of 500 pastors got together and wrote Obama a letter asking him not to cut any program that would hurt the poor. That group would definately be for the most part Dem Pastors.

I'd like to invite you to visit almost any homeless shelter and find out who's volunteering there. If you think you'd find a majority of Berkley liberal arts majors, you'll be sadly mistaken. I know...I'm there often enough. Are you? Its a documented public fact that conservatives actually give much more volunteer time and donate far more money than liberals. Its ironic that your view is still the prevailing one in some "enlightened" circles...even though its a very public and easily demonstrable lie. Not an uncommon phenomenon these days.

I worked as a casemanager in a homeless shelter for a number of years and only left because the pay didn't make ends meet. There were far more liberals employed there, trust me. Very compassionate folks.

Rosie: We have enough revenue to pay our bills at this time. There is no need for Obama to frighten seniors. The first thing Obama did was not give Seniors the cost of living raise that he and congress received for the past two years. Obama took 1/2 trillion dollars out of Medicare when they signed it into law. The only thing Obama is growing is the welfare state.

Taking a half a million dollars out of Medicare is the opposite of growing the welfare state.
10:42 AM on 07/24/2011
It isn't Obama scaring seniors. Its right wingers like Paul Ryan and Sharon Angle who want to get rid of all social programs.

And you are wrong about Obama on this...Obama didn't give himself or Congress a cost of livng raise. Altough the greedy Bush did give himself a Cost of Living Raise every year without fail. While saying no to a raise for minimum wagers for 8 years while President.

Any Cuts Obama has made to Medicare if made by a Republican you wouldn't complain about.

I'd like to remind you that there would be No Medicare at all if not for Democrats because Republicans voted against it back in the 1960's. Just like there would be no Social Security if not for Democrats.

You are very misinformed lady and it's because you are blind and biased.

Koeiseun: I am afraid Obama would agree with your secular view of our country. President Obama told the voters that he was a christian, but we haven't seen any evidence of that since he took office. Al Sharpton said recently that there should be "equal things in every home." What kind of religion do you think that is?

When you say "we haven't seen any evidence of that since he took office" are you basing that on what you have been told or actual fact? As recently as last week the Obamas attended St. Johns church in DC. He also attended a church on a Marine base while in Hawaii last year, it's also a fact the Obama family are members of Evergreen Chapel, the nondenominational church at Camp David the same church the Bushes attended. But let's say for the sake of argument that he isn't a Christian, why is that a problem? Where in the qualifications for POTUS does it say he/she must be a Christian? Is he supposed to be the POTUS or just the President of only Christian Americans?
