Joseph Bernard Campbell has agreed to plead guilty to federal charges of cyberstalking and unauthorized access to a computer after he stole naked pictures of women and posted the images on their Facebook pages.

The Florida man was charged with hacking into the email accounts of 19 different women, stealing nude or semi-nude photos and then hacking their Facebook pages to post the photos as their profile photo, reports Tampa Bay Online.

The 24-year-old from Largo, Fla., knew many of the women. His plea agreement states it was his intention to “to harass the victims and cause them emotional distress.”

Campbell also posted the photos on porn sites called "Pinellas County Sluts” and “Dumpster Sluts,” and in a forum called “Revenge,” The Washington Post reports. Those sites are no longer active.

Campbell admitted he hacked into as many as 500 email accounts and told police he often sent emails to women inviting them to view a greeting card, which tricked them into giving him their passwords, according to Tampa Bay Online.

Part of the plea agreement calls for Campbell to hand over all his computers, the news service said. The charges of cyberstalking and unauthorized access to a computer each carry a maximum penalty of five years in federal prison, along with a $250,000 fine, but it's likely he'll receive a lesser sentence.

He is scheduled to enter the plea in court on Aug. 5.

I have often wondered if people like this man ever think about what the world would be like if everyone acted in the same or like manner as they do. And do they ever think of the tables being turned on them so that they are the victims instead of the perpetrators? They probably don't.

Let me paint a picture here that people can easily understand. Would you buy a file cabinet, fill it with all of your MOST PERSONAL information, set it out in your front yard right in front of the sidewalk, even if it were chained to the ground and locked? Oh, I almost forgot... the guys who keep the databases running smoothly have access to all your info because they work on the other side of your password and can move about unseen and undocumented so we'll say that your undocumented alien gardener has the key to the cabinet.
Would you do that? Hmm?
No?
Then why do you do it in your Facebook profile and in your email accounts?
Don't answer yet, the gardener next door is asking me if I want to see some pictures of my hot looking neighbor's "business trip" to Vegas.

people aren't very bright. i knew a hacker that could figure out a lot of people passwords just by knowing a little bit about them -- the car they drive, their kids or grandkids names, pets, etc. Its amazing how predictable people are.
12:00 PM on 07/24/2011
The fact that he tricked people into giving their passwords and hacked their accounts should give him some good jail time. If not, a message is being sent to all hackers that info on our computers is fair game for all. I learned my lesson after banking on line---and even though I found who had spent my money, the bank would not look into it. Start giving hefty time to these cyber theives. As far as the photos go, 12 years ago no one knew computer images were not safe. We sure know now!!
03:55 AM on 07/26/2011
WHY wouldn't the bank look into it ?? Man, I'd want that bank to get bad publicity. So many banks and businesses pressure you to do financial stuff on line to save them paper, postage, man hours in the branch. etc. Infact, something tells me there was a chance of the FBI that might have been warranted if anything crossed state lines in your case. Something's wrong there.

Bank of America. I gave them the store name in NC where the person tried to buy furniture with my credit card. The person was stupid enough to give their own address. Banks write credit card fraud off, they don't have the personnel to look into it. I called the police in the town where the person lived and they said they couldn't do anything about it either.

Anyone who would allow a photo of themselves in the raw should get 30 years. Cheap advice from an old codger: It's the age of cybermush.

A lot of victim blaming on this thread. I can see that organizers of Slutwalks have their work cut out for them. The victim blaming attitudes that Americans and Canadians have when it comes to women taking nude photos is sickening.

It is NOT the woman's fault is she posts nude photos of herself on her computer and then have photos of her hacked by some crazed misogynist and end up getting posted on the web. It is the hacker's fault 100%.

They were emailing the pictures to other people, not sitting there on their computer. Not blaming the victim, just correcting wrong information.

People think all hackers can just hack into their computer and take files off of it, and while that is possible, it's not what happens 99% of the time. Most of the time they do what is called social engineering to get the password from you. They trick you into clicking something that asks for your info, or guess your security questions to reset the password.

Maybe the lesson here is to not use computers at all. If you don't use a computer, then you can't have your nude pictures stolen from it.

Your post is the reason why Slutwalk was formed in the first place. Women are sick of the victim blaming attitude of Americans and Canadians.

You are clueless for not getting the absurdity of a person using a computer to say stop using computers. You have failed to understand the satirical nature of my posts towards those who blame the women for others' bad behavior.
Go get a sense of humor before you put your foot in your mouth, again.

All you right wingers consistantly talk about "Individual Responsibility". I would think taking a nude photo of yourself and posting it on your computer or phone is a sign of no "individual Responsibility"

I have to go along with you there. We should all know by this time that whatever we post... pics, messages, emails, etc, are not as private as we once thought. After all, if government accounts can be hacked, it stands to reason that the everyday Joe, and Jane can be too.

The message- don't post nude photos of yourself unless you are willing to share with the world.

Why do these woman want to take nude photos of themself. I don't get it.. Do they think they have something that other woman don;t? They all look the same other then the shape and size
02:19 PM on 07/23/2011
Yes but it doesn't stop us men from wanting to see it. I have never saw a picture of a nude woman and thought, "eh same old thing". That being said, the guy should not have been hacking into their accounts.

let him serve a shorter sentence.. That is fine. However, he should feel some of the same embarrassment this Woman did. Even though taboo to talk about, I think he should be depanted and restrained over a spanking horse. Take a leather strap and give him 24 even, hard strokes upon the bare backside and put it on a non-downloadable website for 30 days.
The same goes for any hacker caught and a more harsh punishment for those who do it for financial gain by fraud. I don't think the penalty will deter others committing the same crimes in the future. Tens of millions continue to be victimized by criminals that do the same thing this guy did.
