Michele Bachmann's Eyelashes Go To Tammy Faye Bakker Lengths (PHOTOS)

The Huffington Post     First Posted: 07/22/2011 1:04 pm   Updated: 09/21/2011 5:12 am

Thanks to a vintage article making the interweb rounds earlier this week, we learned that Michele Bachmann's somewhat-schizophrenic style is inspired by both Audrey Hepburn and Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, and that she solicits advice from hubby Marcus, who regularly hits the stores for the GOP presidential candidate, once coming home with "a sleek, simple hourglass dress with a yoke collar in winter white."

But what about her beauty muse? Tammy Faye Bakker, apparently.

Take a look at Bachmann's eyelash evolution and scroll down to keep reading.

Bachmann has pulled a page from the late singer-slash-evangelist's cosmetic playbook, hitting recent public appearances wearing fake eyelashes. And a handful of blogs are onto Bachmann's enhanced eyelids, with Kelly Ann Collins at Glittarazzi writing, "It looks like she's been experimenting with falsies (or hitting the Latisse bottle) since this spring." Political Diva Bia over at Under The Golden Dome asked, "Did I miss the memo where fake eyelashes suddenly became presidential?" adding, "In fact, it should be some sort of caucus crime."

What's more, U.S. News & World Report names "Lose The Lashes" as one of the five ways Bachmann can win 2012 swing voters. Mary Kate Cary explains:

Bachmann's false eyelashes were the first thing many women noticed in the New Hampshire debate, and some found them completely distracting. Body language expert Carol Kinsey Goman recently analyzed Bachmann's body language for the Washington Post, and gave her high marks for her nonverbal cues conveying her warmth and authority. But, Goman writes, "Bachmann's only body language error may have been a cosmetic one: her decision to wear false eyelashes. Researchers who analyze politicians' blink rate find that fast blinkers rarely win elections. Blink rates increase under stress, and they signal a candidate's nonverbal reaction to pressure. While [Mitt] Romney has a fairly low blink rate, Bachmann has a moderately high one, and the false eyelashes she wore during the debate made her blinks much more obvious than those of her competitors." Her high heels helped her appear taller alongside the men -- which is good, according to Goman -- but the eyelashes worked against her. Sure, it's a superficial thing, but when you're introducing yourself to voters, why send a subtle signal that you're stressed out?

However, Bachmann isn't the first female politico to turn to beauty treatments on the campaign trail.

Emmy Award-winning makeup artist and HuffPost blogger Eve Pearl told us, "Michelle Obama wears lashes, Sarah Palin wears lashes...if Hillary Clinton wore them more often she might be called President Clinton right now."

And an extreme example: Dilma Rousseff, president of Brazil. Rousseff underwent a total metamorphosis before taking office, including plastic surgeries, dental alignment, a salon makeover and an entirely new wardrobe.

Pearl added, "My one note to Michele Bachmann, however, would be that people should be noticing you and not your makeup, which means she needs to improve the makeup application. The lashes should be cut down and not look so fake, the eyeshadow colors can be a bit more neutral and not illuminating shades."

Huff Po you are SO not fair minded.

Michelle Obama wears faux eyelashes...they look extremely fake yet she is only lauded for it.

And here Bachmann wears them, but very toned down and not even close to Tammy Baker...and she gets ridiculed for it.

You have no credibility.

And face, love her or hate her, she is a truly good looking woman. Truly pretty with or without the makeup/clothes, etc. Deal with it.

For 55 years old she looks pretty good - enhancements or not. Apparently when you go on stage you need to wear makeup so your features are seen from a distance so I can't fault her for that.

It's her politics that really suck, and for that I normally have a lot of negative comments.

She looks amazing. Just shows how a woman can look if she makes the effort. She is naturally pretty but also fit.

So stupid. Isn't there enough wrong with Michele Bachmann without resorting to taking shots at her makeup (which doesn't look at all like Baker's It's the awful clumping that makes Baker's horrifying look, not the length of the lashes)? Except for the too heavy blush in the first photo, her makeup looks just fine in all of the pictures presented. A little on the heavy side, but not in a bad way. Just like someone who hasn't transitioned her look to better suit her aging skin.

I always thought she was trying to look like those scary 'American Girl' dolls.

Think 'Chucky' with lipstick.

I really hate her politics, but this is an unfortunate slideshow. Lot's of women, including me, dye our hair, wear make up and get surgical alterations. Let's keep politics, political and give up on the stupid commentary about her appearance.

Not a chance.it's only stupid to people that do it without regard for style and reality. Some women look worse with lots of make-up but they lack the self-confidence to be seen as God made them. Others wear only their freshly washed face and could use some help to enhance their look a little. It is the lack of judgement of these women and men(Borehner) that go too far and look clown-like. We've all seen what bad plastic surgery and too much botox can create. To me it indicates a sort of desperation to look younger/better when there is no hope of that happening. So yeah,make-up,hair dye and PS ,etc. poorly done SAY a lot about politicians. As the voting public it behooves us to listen.

Tammy Faye may have been her beauty muse, but only on the outside. On the inside, Tammy Faye had a much kinder and more beautiful soul.

The american electorate may night be Einstein's, but to suggest that Hillary Clinton would be president today if she had used false eyelashes, is an insult beyond belief - and really just plain stupid.

I would not describe MO as hot at all, not even in the running. I don't see the "hotness" there at all.

Decent and OK looking, when she chooses the right clothes, but hot? NOT.
