Oslo Bombing Photos: Massive Explosion Hits Prime Minister's Office, Government Headquarters

Explosions struck the Norwegian capital of Oslo today, ripping through the Norwegian government headquarters.

The Associated Press quotes government spokeswoman Camilla Ryste as saying Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg is safe. There was no immediate word on the cause of the blast.

We have to start somewhere to prevent at least the bmbing in Norway! It has been reported that
the deranged bomber and mass murderer purchased sufficient fertilizer to create the bomb that was used to cause explosive damage to a buildiong housing diplomats in Oslo! Why isn't there a standard procedure in effect to report non-legitimate purchases of fertilizer to police and security? Why aren't the sellers of fertilizer alert to report the same? People need to stop
reading or hearing about terrorist and mad men threats and attacks and then going on about their merry way like it's yesterday's movie! It takes all of us to be alert to reduce terrorist and nut case tragedies to an absolute minimum! Roland C. Woodaka

I suppose that a political fanatic could attack the opponents' gathering. That is why (since the 1960s there has been security at these sorts of events.

There's more to the Norway story than is being told (I say that, because from the beginning there have been reports of another shooter on the other side of that island. Also, first it's a car bomb; then the bomb was placed in the sewer area (under repair). And, the government had a drill a few days before this happened.

Then, there's the real-politik of Norway's possitions with NATO, the euro bailout of Greece, Norway's support of the Palestinian side. And the fact that Norway has had at least 20 attacks (not as horrific as this one) since 2005.

Norway has not had 20 attacks since 2005, it's 15 incidents since 1979! Go back and read it again!

There are a number of people who "deserve" it.
But no person who is worthy to carry it out,
to judge Life and Death.
And Government homicide is still homicide and belittles us all.

Not to mention that if you really want to punish someone, give them life in maximum security.

Of course I believe in innocent until proven guilty. But when you have hundreds of witnesses to the shootings that all identify the one guy as the shooter. I don't need a trial. In addition, I don't think it's right for the families of the victims to lose their loved ones because of him AND as taxpayers, foot the bill for his lifetime incarceration much less max security.

I am norwegian and I was downtown, when the bomb went off. Its so unreal what has happened and especially the massacre at Utøya. When it comes to death penalty, thats something we have always fought against, and will continue to do. We can not let anger take the focus away from what we believe is right. He is a murder, we are not!
