Wu-Tang Clan's 'The Black Diamonds': Does It Measure Up?

Wu-Tang Clan's new album, Legendary Weapons, has many wondering if it's only an album in name. For one, the full clan isn't here. Raekwon, RZA, Ghostface Killah, Method Mad, Inspectah Deck and U-God are present, which leaves GZA and Masta Killa who are not. Sure, that's almost the whole gang, but each track lists the members as "featured," leaving one to wonder if this isn't more of a makeshift effort.

Regardless, we're here to listen. This Wu track, "The Black Diamonds," was released earlier this month, but in anticipation of Legendary Weapons dropping next Tuesday, July 26, we're bringing it around for another spin.

"The Black Diamonds" features Ghostface, Roc Marciano and Killa Sin. Marciano was featured on Wu-Tang's 2005 album, Wu-Tang Meets the Indie Culture, and Killa Sin is one of Wu-Tang's many orbitals. The track's ominous melody, countered by high-octave piano keys trilling throughout -- and, of course, crazed voices waving in and out -- remind us of why we loved the Wu in the first place. We just hope that's not all this album is -- a reminder.
