Congress Websites Down: House, Senate Sites Not Working (UPDATE)

Congress Websites Down

The Huffington Post   First Posted: 07/25/11 11:25 PM ET Updated: 09/24/11 06:12 AM ET

Numerous websites for House and Senate members experienced downtime Monday night following a speech from President Barack Obama on ongoing talks to raise the debt ceiling.

The website DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com confirms that the following websites were among those affected:
-Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.)
-House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio)
-Rep. Elliot Engel (D-N.Y.)
-Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho)
-Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.)
-Rep. Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.)
-Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.)
-Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.)
-Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa)

Not all are down though. Among the congressional websites that currently work without any problems is Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's (D-Nev.). The websites of House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, Rep. Jarry Nadler (D-N.Y.) and Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.) also work.

The cause of the outages is not yet clear, though Obama did encourage people to contact their representatives in Congress.

UPDATE (10:53 p.m. ET): Some of the sites above are now experiencing intermittent issues. They seem to return briefly and go back down. Some say "Server too busy," others say "Server error," and some do not load at all.

UPDATE (11:10 p.m. ET): All the above sites seem to be back now except for Boehner's, however most are loading slowly.

UPDATE (11:17 p.m. ET): The website of Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) is down at this time, as is the site of Nan Hayworth (R-N.Y.).

UPDATE (11:25 p.m. ET): Also down at this time are the sites of Rep. Rick Crawford (R-Ark.), Rep. Mike Ross (D-Ark.), Rep. Steve Womack (R-Ark.), Sen. Mark Pryor (D-Ark.) and Sen. John Boozman (R-Ark.).

UPDATE (1:50 a.m. ET): The House and Senate websites now seem back to normal.

Of course, Republicans will never admit there is any outrage.  They are masters of spin.  They will draw an equivalency between the two emails that support conservative plans to balance the budget on the backs of the poor and middle class with the 100 emails which protested their policies. They do not listen and that is why they are Republicans.  They follow their own ideologies and usually  Read More...

You can still call and be heard:

Everyone needs to write or email or call their congressmen. Let them know we will not be trampled without a fight and they WILL pay for this November 2012. Find your representatives: http:// www.house.gov and your senators: http://www.senate.gov and communicate with them...or call the Capitol Switchboard at 202 224-3121 The more of us who only vent here yet stay silent the more these people will push through their evil agenda!

What is really frustrating is that I have heard conservative congressional offices stating that the calls they were receiving were supportive of their teaparty stance and that any not affirming were plants. Ugh! I am so disgusted. I live in a district with a teaparty representative that signed the no tax pledge. How can our voices be heard if no one will even listen??????

they can say whatever they want but you can be sure they're counting the calls for and against them and weighing them against next years elections.

I call anyway. Sometimes they are rude and condescending but I don't care. They need to know that we are paying attention and know what they are up to. The more you do it the easier it becomes.

Wasn't that nice. Senator Bill Nelson sent me an email asking what I thought should be done with the debt ceiling issue. Now that is a great Senator!

Obama 2012!

GOD BLESS AMERICA!

What needs to happen is for these individuals that say they work for what we want need to give back the salaries they have recieved, because they are not doing what we want them to do.they are raping the AMERICAN Public and getting away with it.This guy named Boehner or Baynor which ever it is. Him and all those that serve our so called need need to resign and we can start all over with a new breed of individuals who are not used to having their way.We also need to set a salary for these individuals so they dont get to used to having the easy life and screwing up the whole country with all the crap they think we eat. We can impeach a president well lets impeach every single individual thats up there representing us from each state and bring in new blood and teach them that when this country wants something done its done and not played with.

We should also ban all congressmen from dealing with lobbiests!...or from accepting any gifts or campaign donations from them. That is where the biggest problem lies!

Perhaps it is time to peacefully take to the streets and surround the homes of the Washington politicians who can't seem to play nice. Just bring some water, food and maybe some sort of sunblocking canopy and set up on the lawns and driveways of these people. No need to be rude or shout angry slogans at them or their families, just show up, sit down and be nice. Make this a peaceful protest to send a message to the politicians. The message is this...THE ART OF POLITICS IS COMPROMISE. So get compromising and tear up the pledges you may have signed. You were elected to do a job, not take a stance.

Yes, free handouts to GE,Exxon Mobil and all the other giant companies that are making billions and getting handouts from the taxpayer.
11:15 PM on 07/26/2011
Amazing isn't it that the CEO of GE is on the Residents counsel and made 16 billion last year and paid no taxes at all. Your messiah at work for you. Do some research and see how much the companies you listed paid the DNC last year.
