Suspect Anders Behring Breivik's Manifesto Plagiarized From The Unabomber

Unabomber

DENVER -- Parts of the manifesto written by the suspect in Norway's terrorist attack were taken almost word for word from the writings of "Unabomber" Ted Kaczynski.

The passages copied by Anders Behring Breivik appear in the first few pages of Kaczynski's manifesto. Breivik changed a Kaczynski screed on leftism and what he considered to be leftists' "feelings of inferiority" – mainly by substituting the words "multiculturalism" or "cultural Marxism" for "leftism."

For instance, Kaczynski wrote: "One of the most widespread manifestations of the craziness of our world is leftism, so a discussion of the psychology of leftism can serve as an introduction to the discussion of the problems of modern society in general."

Breivik's manifesto reads: "One of the most widespread manifestations of the craziness of our world is multiculturalism, so a discussion of the psychology of multiculturalists can serve as an introduction to the discussion of the problems of Western Europe in general."

Breivik did not cite Kaczynski, though he did for many other people whose writings he used in his 1,500-page manifesto.

He used at least one portion verbatim: "Feminists are desperately anxious to prove that women are as strong and capable as men. Clearly they are nagged by a fear that women may NOT be as strong and as capable as men."

Breivik is accused of killing at least 93 people Friday by setting off an explosion in downtown Oslo and then gunning down young campers on a nearby island. Kaczynski is serving a life sentence in federal prison in Colorado for mail bombs that killed three people and injured 23 others across the U.S. from the 1970s to the 1990s.

Former FBI Agent Terry Turchie, who supervised the federal task force to capture the Unabomber, said Sunday that he saw similarities between the two men.

"They seem to have this anger, the loner aspect, this desire to look back at the way things were and think of themselves as self-reliant," said Turchie, who wrote "Hunting the American Terrorist: The FBI's War on Homegrown Terror" in 2007.

"The real problem is these loners are much more difficult to find and prevent from killing people than other kinds of terrorists," he said.

Yet another proof that Oslo bomber was inspired by American far right. Why else he would read, much less plagiarize from Una-bomber or have references to Pamela Geller in his manifesto and blogs?

Pamela Geller on Sunday scrambled to deflect blame and to isolate Breivik as a lone madman unconnected to her cause.

Breivik had made only “one passing reference” to her, Geller insisted (she ignored Breivik’s 12 references to her blog, however), and a mere 55 mentions of her "Stop Islamization of America" co-founder Robert Spencer, which Geller described as “mostly quotes from Muslim scriptures.” (The New York Times counted 64 mentions of Spencer; Geller also disregarded Breivik’s “nomination” of Spencer for the Nobel Peace Prize.)

Another story about a conservative which believes life should be only one-way. There are many tea baggers who have the same philosophy.

Let's not attempt to rationalize the insane. It wouldn't be a surprise if he did.

Seriously, a man kills 80 people and the HP is worried about plagiarism? This site is looking more and more like the NY Post.

You don't think that reading things like this shows some insights into his personality?

I don't think it demonstrates anything except a seriously demented mind who seeks out other seriously demented minds. I am more curious about the police taking 90 minutes to respond, when a news outlet was there in 15. But that's me.

Let's just get rid of stories about either one of these lugnuts.

All they wanted was attention. Don't give it to them.

If so, they should tack-on a copyright infringement charge.

By definition, no one who pens these manifestos is putting forth original thought. Behring plagiarized Kaczynski, but who had Kaczynski plagiarized? On and on, going back certainly through the entirety of the 20th century, indeed throughout written history. Sadly enough, someone will plagiarize Behring as well, if they haven't already done so.
Bigotry and intolerance resulting in extreme acts of violence is unfortunately nothing new. The h8tred exposed and executed by these deranged individuals has been nurtured and informed by the writings of those that came before them.

And more important, is Kaczynski's estate going to sue him for copyright infringement? Sheesh!
