A tiny, man-made island in the middle of San Francisco Bay doesn't intuitively seem like the ideal location for a massive, multi-day, music festival. The only access to the island is off the middle of the Bay Bridge (so getting there can be a hassle), there's no parking for festival goers, and limited space on the island makes the traditional sprawling layout of most music festivals impossible.

Yet, since 2007, the team of Another Planet Entertainment and Noise Pop continue to put on one of the best music festivals in California.

The weekend-long festival is divided into two days--Saturday is usually packed with electronic and dance acts while Sunday's generally filled with indie rock. This split leads to Treasure Island having one of the most effortlessly diverse lineups around. Last year alone, the festival featured (now sadly defunct) indie-dance kingpins LCD Soundsystem, twee Scottish superstars Belle & Sebastian, South African maybe-joke rappers Die Antwoord and angular, indie cool kids The National.

Not only does Treasure Island have an eclectic lineup, but it's set up so attendees never have to make difficult choices about what to see. There are two stages in close proximity to each other and the moment the artist on one stage finishes playing, one on the other starts. In 2009, for example, it was possible to see The Flaming Lips, The Decemberists, Beirut, Grizzly Bear and Yo La Tengo one after another without missing a single moment of music or having wait between performances.

Add to that, getting there is a snap: hop on a shuttle from the parking lot at AT&T Park, and you're there in minutes.
