Denise Richards Talks Charlie Sheen On 'Today' Show (VIDEO)

On Tuesday's episode of "The Today Show" Denise Richards opened up to Matt Lauer about her divorce from ex-husband Charlie Sheen, saying, "The man I fell in love with is a very compassionate, humble [man] who has a wonderful heart, and the behavior that a lot of us saw in the last six months is not the person...I fell in love with."

Richards, who just adopted a baby girl, was on the show to promote her new book, "The Real Girl Next Door," her first foray into writing, and a book she hopes will help others who are suffering through difficult divorces to realize that, despite enduring the emotional exhaustion of messy divorces and custody battles, there is light at the end of the tunnel:

"I think that a lot of women and men who are going through divorce can relate to my feelings of being angry, scared, and guilty...I want someone who is going through a similarly difficult situation to have hope."

As for her relationship with her ex-husband, set to star in a new sitcom about anger management, today? "We're doing good," she says.

And despite Sheen's public indiscretions over the past year, Richards is hopeful of Sheen's future as well as her own. "I still care very much for him...he's a survivor. If anyone can pull themselves together, it's Charlie."

That was very smart of her. The last thing any normal, intelligent and forward-thinking person would want to do is to bash their ex when they have children together. This can cause psychological damage to the kids knowing that half of themselves could be corrupted. He's a survivor is a good way of putting it. She might need him one day to be the father (which he is) to the kids. And evidently he is a great father. Look at how the kids respond to him. You can't just start ripping kids from the only fatherly love they have. That would be stupid. Too many people do it out of spite and revenge and then they wonder why they have messed up kids later on in life.

Denise Richards has no conception of what it is to be a survivor from addiction. Charley Sheen is an addict who has yet to acknowledge his addiction nor make the right choices to overcome his addict behaviour. Charley Sheen is not a survivor, but rather a person in denial.

Well I saw her on the View and she is a knockout - I guess I never realized her beauty but she doesn't seem to be happy - maybe because she is not like Hollywood but seems to be down to earth and you don't see that very often - she really did appear to be the girl next door and I think it's great that she is riding on Charlie's demise
